The Ohio EPA has extended the public comment period on a preliminary permit issued to Cleveland Public Power to build a trash gasification plant at the city’s Ridge Road garbage transfer station. The comment period was to end Monday, but will be extended to February 23.
Last week Mayor Frank Jackson’s office requested the 30 day extension. Prior to that, environmental groups and residents had asked for an extension of 90 days to ask additional questions of the agency.
Meanwhile, controversy surrounding the facility, which would gasify city trash into a syngas that would then fire boilers to produce about 7 percent of the electricity CPP now buys every year.
Last night about 100 residents attended the first of several community meetings CPP is holding during the next few weeks to discuss the trash gassing plans. Most, including Congressman Dennis! Kucinich oppose the plan because it will increase air pollutants, may increase truck traffic in the neighborhood, and because the costs are as yet, unknown.
In fact, Cleveland officials still seem to have no idea how they would pay for the trash plant, “There are many options, both private financing and public financing,” CPP Commissioner told the crowd. “But I can guarantee that if it doesn’t make sense [financially] then it’s a no-go.”
However, if the Ohio EPA gives a final approval to the air permit related to the facility, the city will pay Peter Tien ofas Scene previously explained Princeton Environmental $600,000 for his work toward securing the EPA permit.
Last night, Henderson said the city also plans to ask city council for money to hire a consultant to help determine how to proceed with the trash plant.
Meanwhile, the EPA plans to make a final ruling on the air permit by early spring. EPA spokesman Mike Settles says the agency has already received a large number of comments and questions.

There are many good things involved when we try to see how we can convert a negative (trash) to a positive (energy). The conversion process of matter at rest to energy is as old as the universe, or at least our earth and solar system. We have not been, as humans, involved with this process very long. I guess when we discovered how to control fire would be one of the first breakthroughs. No, if you will, as in 2001 when the bone used to beat the shit out of another caveman is thrown into the air and a is converted to a space ship, we have a similar thing going on in 2012 reality. A full eleven years after the 2001 futuristic story with HAL turning on humans and Dave unplugging him (it) HAL, the computer system which took over the space ship, we can certainly see some similarities and some lessons to be learned.
Coversion of energy is a process which humans do more effieciently than any thing we have seen in the universe. Our brain takes in perception and spins it around a few times and spits out a thought which is converted into a behavior and becomes part of it’s physical surroundings. I think the investigation of anything involving the conversion process is worth exploration. We have only begun to reap the benefits of wind, water and sun being part of our converted energy holdings. The energy is there and in infinite abundance. Our coal, gas and oil and wood are only inefficient fuels which burn off mostly into entropy or something like that. After the heat of the flame is used or stored, what about the rest? Just because we are new at this conversion thing it does not mean that we have become very good at the capture and ecconomical or environmentally sane conversion of energy.
OK, so we have converted energy needs which we power out via electricity. The lines are kept full so that the user can plug in the computer or the TV or the tool or the heater or anything he would like to plug into which takes AC or DC power. If it is AC it comes from Aleternate Current which can have several sources fed into it from different reserves, or DC which pretty much would be a generator using up its’ energy as converted, or Direct Current. I know I am being over simplistic, but I think you can at least use my analogies for simple conceptual ideas, if not more elaborate detail. Any additions or corrections are welcomed.
Storage of energy is a big part of the conversion process. Matter is a storage mass in itself and is at rest and waiting patiently to be fired up. Batteries are a storage method. When we store electricity for big jobs it costs a lot of fuel and storage costs, but memory for computers is stored very inexpensively. Like our minds and brain, you get a lot of bang for the buck when you apply fuel to the human brain and body and other perception tools…eyes are cameras, ears are microphones and then there is the speaker or the mouth or the fucking pie-hole…shut your pie-hole is a common demand made by primitive communicators who have yet to learn the more gentle methods of message delivery.
We will soon have many more medias for storage of digital data. If you want in on a little tip as far as science fiction and the new technologies are concerned, the science and exploration of holography is going to be revolutionary. 3-D so resolute that you can not tell the difference between physical people and holographic projections.
But then holographic science will also move other things closer like super-conductors and storage media. Holography is like a whole new stage of the evolution of communication technology. It is kind of like expodential power, the holographic world will offer oportunities not yet dreamed of, far beyond security representations to scare off thieves by projecting a body guard or a dog as a deterent. The applications will be enormous for all areas of science. This wonderful imaging technology already has it in the form of MRIs and other scan methods of 3-D assembly. There has been giant money put into imaging technologies for a long time and it is ready to make a big jump into holographic imaging.
Some scientists say that holographic discoveries will prove to be the most important discovery of the last century. The studies got going faster all of the time and this science has silently made its’ way through the smoke and mirrors of a laser-beam phase, to a giant amount of studies within the holographic principles to explore from physics to spritualism. It is like putting a rocket ship into hyper-dive squared.
When we converted from being a physical entity to becoming an electronic image captured in digital format, we did not know it but we began to take our conscousness at the speed of light. The PC made it to where we became illusions of cyberspace. Our image travels the vast areas between the human species, conduction routes for image data, the storage of that image and the reproduction. All of these huge data bases is stored in a little box all of the things which are a part of your electronic image. You are recording your thoughts and making them available to all of cyberspace. The most important parts of you in the data storage book of all cyber-time. What I am saying is that you are more you, you when interacting on the internet than you are driving a car. The you driving the car does not have their thoughts and ideas placed into the hands of the public for consumption.
Once we record a sentence and publish on the internet we add to our electronic, data image. Even our very DNA is nothing but another number of many where the recorded files are waiting release. A simple binary move among infinite binary movement. Like switches being turned on and off so as to determine the path.
Never before was recorded and published data at such a fast pace. Combine this with a record population number of seven billion people here on planet earth and you have a very easy opportunity for communication. Instantly and without ambiguity the messages are delivered so as to go to another and another and thus gain a form of eternity. Now, in 2012, we have the very strange behavior of gridlock in our government..a near total communication break-down between the republicans and the democrats which has renered our government dysfunctional. I fault guys like Inquist or gilquest or …anyway he’s the guy that got all of the republicans to sign a blood oath to not raise taxes. It may even be in written form. An entire group saying that they will make their number one priority in running a government is to control taxes. That creates dysfunction which we the people suffer the most for. Yet we have watched these types gain more and more power over the country and the government, and demand respect (rather than earn it) so much to the point where we literally are a society of legalities with a money foundation. Money has never had so much power over a society than it does in todays world of corporate and individual super-wealth and the concentrated control which it has been given. OWS gave with tremendous powerful message that we are being controlled by a small group of money control-freak groups who never have enough. They are defending their right to do anything to protect and increase their wealth and power. And we have an entire political party right now that has no clue of anything other than their own taxes and fortunes. We have created a money controlled and owned mass of money power which is directed at the government with attacks of what they do not want to happen and hold the dysfunctional laws and legalities which give them yet another advantage. Greed makes men ass-holes of the ugliest kind as they hood-wink each other into deals, often one way deals, they often look for the win-loose relationship and will create that with every calculated move. Having humans in negotiating positions based upon money is crazy and will not work.
The big money even writes its’ own science if given the opportunity. Control is the priority one of run-away capitalism. For years now run-away capitalism has pushed its’ will upon the public like never before. We walk around with a cell phone plugged into one side of our head talking to the same people about the same dumb stuff, letting the same fearful thoughts swim around their heads and stir the shit into dysfunction at least and violence at worst. The straw-boss has yet another ass-chewing to perform, and since you are always ‘fucking up’ I guess it will be your turn again. Working conditions are often cold and competitive and you can almost see the daggars sticking out of the smiles and forced laughter. Plastic is too often at the center of the upper management and owners, and a bottom line method of mood dictation. I use them as messurment sticks to evaluate good spirit being allowed in their working environments. The guy who was penciled in as Warren Buffets’ right hand guy, the one who bought some of Lubrizol while he was massaging a deal, he was a trip and a half. He said he had a terrible fear of failure so he wanted to keep ahead of the game. Greed is fear you know. Ask Warren. The fear of being beaten or perceived loss just eats these guys to death. This guy had a list of future fired people, in order to who needs to get the axe first. These types are all over corporate America now days.
The sad thing about business is that it used to be fun. The lawyers and MBA’s and sterile ideas about money making every decision in the whole running of a business. The balless refusers of taking any other risk than those authored by their favorites and their partners in control-freaking everything from politics to mental health. Scientists and artists and poets and inventors used to be seen as more relevent than the lawyers and bean-counters and marketting and business degrees…but now it are these types who have gone against the creative ones and fought them and tried to make them more cows to be milked and farmed and used up and then turned out to pasture. They fought to get the most fair minded and wise old fuckers out of the picture so they could continue their control-freak party with out some old fucker talking about ethics and morals and other worthless shit they used to teach in higher education before they (we) saw that there was no money in those aspects of communication and that thinking about those things made you less effective at delivering good and increasingly more profitable deals and more deals.
Becoming a bottom line businessman is the same as being conservative. When this idea goes wrong as it has in our current republican party, working capital is cut so far down in areas which are not profitable enough, that the stagnation of business occurs which stifels ideas needed to turn the ecconomy around. We have turned the leadership of the USA over to lawyers and their bean counters, MBA’s and business degrees and the pooled money of the decision makers. Decisions are made harder and harder as lawyers make things more binding and contracts which need to be tested and broken because they are not fair to all parties concerned. So long as the lawyers stack the deck of every business deal in the USA and much of the world, we will continue to litigate our lives away and hold some good leaders and ideas down. Litigation has reached a proportional degree to the lawyers and business degrees in leadership positions. The top has been filled with those educated in bottom line profiteering and politics which uses money to satisfy goals created by and made up of money. We have lost the idea of business being an extention of a hand shake and trust and replace it with a document with small funny print and an x for you to sign in.
Did you know that most business used to be conducted with a handshake and a set of some very easily understood asumptions as far as fair dealing was concerned. Here is my suggestion: Re visit every legal contract for other than straight-forward business agreement. You are not supposed to be manufacturing contractual agreements like they were widgits all with a different catch. Why in the fuck and how in the fuck did we turn the whole world over to these traps for litigation. Most contracts are drawn up to favor one side. This creates self destruction.
