Cleveland police are once again flaunting their prowess as law enforcers after illegally installing traffic cameras at an intersection in Parma.

Cleveland’s cameras and signage went up on Parma property just west of Broadview and Brookpark road, a location, which, per city ordinances, is downright illegal.

According to Parma City Hall, school zones are the only places in the city where automated traffic enforcement is permitted.

“[I]t appears this was a mistake and we have been informed that it will be removed by the City of Cleveland,” the folks at City Hall told NewsNet5.

The upshot? The cameras were not installed properly fully functional so no motorists were cited.

  1. People complain about bad drivers, then complain when the police do their job. We need these cameras and the police to slow down these reckless speeders, along with people on cell phones running red lights etc.

  2. I think they should install chips in cell phones that if you drive past these devices while driving it BLOWS your head off. Obviously its more complicated and technical than that but who wants to get in tot he specifics when we all want results here! It will eliminate future issues with people talking on cell phones number 1, number 2 we wont have to worry about people speed anymore because of all the rubber necking going on trying to figure out who lost their head in the last conversation. YEAH!! AND Ed up there will be happy and feel while driving.

  3. Oops, wrong place. But hey, any place will do as long as it can squeeze another dime out of some poor Clevelander. But speeding isn’t the only issue with Ohio drivers. More and more I see folks crowding intersections, running red lights, failing to yield to other traffic where they should (like onramps), and in general just being in too big a hurry to get somewhere and too busy to be anything other than rude, inconsiderate and just plain stupid.

  4. Just what the city of Cleveland needs. More money from BS cameras to pay for another asshole officer to shoot someone. FTP

  5. Ed,

You are an ignorant moron! This isn’t police doing their job. This is putting undo financial stress on so many residents who can hardly afford a home for their family. This is stealing hard earned dollars from good people that need it.

Real police work is not citing someone for driving 42 in a 35 (which in my opinion is not reckless – vehicles of today are a touch more safe than they were in the 80s when these arbitrary numbers were accepted).

Real police work is stopping the local heroin epidemic currently taking over our high school age children, putting an end to local government corruption, catching a murderer, rapist, child molester or career con artist. Rarely to never do you hear of anything of this sort as rarely to never does our local finest achieve these objectives.

All we need is a few more morons like yourself at the polls and we won’t have to worry about issues like this for much longer.

  6. First of all I have nothing but the upmost respect for our law enforcement officials and they need not be degraded! When I was a child we idolized them. However these cameras are an infringement on our privacy and god given rights. With freedom comes responsibility, when people stop taking responsibility for there actions, government takes those freedoms away. That’s where we are in this country now! No responsibility for your actions, my freedoms taken away. Thanks for dragging me down with you!

  7. How do you install a camera by accident? You drop something by accident. You install something on purpose. That intersection is clearly Parma, not Cleveland. This camera was installed in Parma on purpose.

Also, some people on this thread are mistaken. These cameras don’t catch people talking on cell phones, texting, or anything other than the intended purpose — either speeding or running lights. That’s all you get.

The City of Cleveland’s program brings in revenue, but a HUGE chunk of the money goes to Xerox, the owner of the cameras. It’s silly.

  8. Something I want to add, every night for the past 2
weeks I’ve seen a Cleveland patrol car #232 coming out of Parma on ridge road usually around 1:30/2:00am. What is a Cleveland patrol car doing in Parma at that hour?

  9. Everyone of you speeders and run light runners need to be in jail. Period. And I don’t care if you are chased by a policeperson or caught by a camera. Obey the law and there is no problem. The only strain on poor families is when they don’t obey the law and get caught.
