How did they get the O.J. jury to come to Cleveland?

Apparently, the OJ Simpson jury had a nice vacation in Cleveland. 12 morons decided not to give Terrence Hough (the fire fighter who killed three people and injured two last july 5th) the death penalty.
He killed three young adults who were making noise after midnight. He decided to grab a fucking 40 caliber and shoot 5 unarmed people, because calling the police and have these guys arrested apparently was too light of a punishment, right? …

  1. I bet no one will be shooting off fireworks in that neighborhood on July 4th this year.

  2. That neighborhood is nothing but white trash! Those people did not deserve to die but a good ass kicking would have been justified!

  3. Thank you Mr. Linares. I’m Bruce Anderson’s mother, and I feel exactly the way you do. My only solace is that Hough will never be free again, not only that, but I pray every day that he finds himself a victim of some other psychopath in the prison system, and that his “life” is so horrific that he wishes every day that he were dead, or that somehow he takes a manly way out, and kills himself.
Mr. Linare3s, did you notice that “Mikey” didn’t have the balls to put either his address or e-mail address in his moronic comments? What’s up Mikey? You total degenerate. Becky Pfeiffer

  4. This is a terrible case — you feel for the shooter, Hough, but he committed a violent crime.
The idiots that were shooting fireworks that late should have been arrested and fined. The penalty for their stupidity and rudeness wasn’t death.
I would never give the death penalty in a case like this. Life in prison with possibility of parole is what I would have wanted done.
This is the kind of thing that can happen, if calling the police doesn’t work. Its called lawlessness. These guys shooting the fireworks didnt even get a trial, thought, to see who was guilty. This fireman was judge jury and executioner.
If it were my child killed, I would want the guy’s head on a platter too.
Let everyone know that doing stupid things can have consequences.

  5. As a law abiding citizen, I have to question this jury’s actions. As a mother, to two teenage boys, I cannot begin to imagine the grief and despair these victim’s friends and family must be feeling. My heart breaks for them.
I am, shaking my head in disgust, that it seems to be “okay” to shoot down 5 young people because they are making to much noise.
I don’t care if Mr. Hough was a former member of the Vatican, he deserved the death penaly in this case. I see that, in this case- it surely makes a difference if you are a “veteran” firefighter.
In closing, I must say I am thrilled, relieved and will sleep better when my boys are out that I do NOT live in the Cleveland area.
I thank God that we Southerners DON’T believe in murdering children for making noise on the fourth of July (or any other day!).

  6. Just out of curiosity when Terry Hough went to fight a fire, did he interview the neighbors to see if the people inside the blaze were liked by their neighbor’s just find it hard to believe that Mr.Hough was in the business of saving lives essentially through those 3 people right into the belly of a fire. My heart breaks for the mothers of those kid’s. they will forever remember the 4th of July as the anniversary of their children’s death. There are a lot of things I would call Mr.Hough,Firefighter, human, father, and american are not however any of them.

  8. Of course, killing people is wrong and these poor kids lost their lives. My first thought when I heard this story was ‘he should have moved.’ Nowadays there is alot of inconsideration in the world. Where I live I have noisy people downstairs who slam doors all night (that really gets the nerves over wrought), 3 dogs that bark constantly, screaming kids, loud music. When I feel like I could literally kill someone and my anger is just bubbling over at how people can be so inconsiderate of those around them I remind myself of one thing… if you don’t want to hear the noise you should move. Then I say, well if I go through the trouble of moving will it be quiet in the next place of will their be more inconsiderate people around me. People with whistle tips on their cars and motercyclists driving up residential streets making ear splitting noise? And the answer is sadly, yes there probably will be. Obviously, Hough has a mental problem if he cannot control the anger that many of us put up with everyday when dealing with noise and it’s detrimental chronic affects on our lives. He should have called the cops or MOVED but there should be a footnote on this case that peace and quiet is not just a catchy phrase. People need some semblance of it to live. That being said, the 4th of July is a night when we expect to hear noise which is why this case is so tragic and makes no sense. He could have gotten earplugs (something which has saved my sanity many a night). I don’t know. This world has gone insane. You never know who you are dealing with and what they can or can’t take. Sometimes it’s better to stop and consider that. You could be living next to a maniac with no ability to control himself or someone hanging by a thread to their sanity. Then again if he was so miserable he could have SHOT HIMSELF or again MOVED. Just move. Sell your house and find another one. This is also why guns should be outlawed this way if people have some sort of dispute it doesn’t wind up with people shot dead in an instant. What a tragedy

  9. Cases like this only further prove our judicial system to be an absolute load of bullshit. Its really unfourtunate that some redneck with an IQ of 40 that makes the decision the go outside an gun down 5 people, and doesn’t get the death penalty. There is no way in hell that you can walk through your house, remove your gun from its case, load it, and walk outside and shoot without it being considered pre-meditated murder.
He is a disgusting piece of garbage and an appauling excuse for a human being. And he needs to be put to death, not by lethal injection, but by a firing squad.
If that Mr. Hough wasn’t a firefighter,a white firefighter,by the way, he would be on death row already. If tyrone biggums from the crack den down the block had come and killed these kids, then where would we be?
There shouldn’t be any exceptions made in the case of precalculated cold blooded murders, whether they are executed by an elderly woman or an overweight middle aged firefighter.
They should hurry up and stick that bastard in the arm and then throw his corpse in a dumpster.
Not to mention this is obviously an embarrasment for all firefighters.

  18. As a Professional Firefighter of almost 32 years service, I feel the need to weigh in on this. First, I wonder just what kind of selection process allowed this fool to slip through into the ranks. Obviously, there was no kind of psychological evaluations in his testing process. It was the 4th of July. In my city where fireworks are illegal, it sounded like World War 3. You expect that. He should have expected that. I want to caution all of you who make the assumption that his association with the fire department was why he didn’t receive the death penalty. In these very liberal times it is unpopular to put that kind of sentence on a person no matter how terrable the crime. And that’s too bad. I think I can speak for my brother and sister firefighters or certainly the vast majority of them that we would never condone or in any way support this kind of unthinkable act. We live to serve our citizens in their darkest hour where we are truely the arrows in the quiver of last resort. Over a hunderd of us make the ultimate sacrifice doing our jobs for the public each and every year. I will tell you this, Terrance Hough may have been running around looking the part, but based on his actions he was never one of us. I for one and I know there would be few if any others who disagree, strike his name and memory from the ranks of Professional Firefighters everywhere. He is a lowlife freek and a total disgrace to the uniform and to all who wear it. Terrance Hough deserved to get death for this deed. He certainly richly deserves it and it is a dis-service to the families and the community to give him anything less. Shame on him and shame on the jury members who failed to do their jobs. I hope no one will let this sorry event reflect badly on your firefighters. I am just sad that justice in a case like this isn’t served as it should be. I can only hope that in the dark of night as he lies awake in his cell for the rest of his life, he suffers with what he has done, and that he suffers it for a long, long time to come. I hope he lives to be very old and that his actions stand darkly over him, that he miss what he had in family friends and career. I hope he remembers in vivid detail what he did and never finds peace or justification of any kind. He isn’t a firefighter….he was never one of us.

  19. Wow I cannot believe some of the insensitive comments regarding the innocent human lives of the victims in this case. Unless Terry Hough was threatened with deadly force did he have the right to use the same. The only idoit is Terry Hough who threw away he life was his family and took away three lives, who were sons/sister, friends and loved ones. WHAT A COMPLETE TRAGEDY.
I’m not sure how I feel about the death penalty but this might be a case that deserved it. He knew that he was going to use that gun to kill when he grabbed. I do not believe a man who often went to a shooting range only planned on talking to them with it, and that is 1ST DEGREE MURDER!

  20. You know, some of you people are just plain idiots. The man snapped! I’ve been there. I, however, did not pick up a gun and kill anyone though at times i felt like i would want to. He is serving a far worse punishment than death. You cannot erase the years of good this guy did because of one bad act. I feel for the families because those people didnt deserve to die, they did however deserve a good ass kicking but thats neither her nor there.
Stop talking shit about Terry and calling him unamerican, or unhuman.. we’ve all been in a situation where we’ve thought about doing someting uncontionable… we just dont do it!

  21. That appears quiet hypocritical to say you can’t erase years of good for one bad act. What about the years of good of the victims’ for one night. SNAPPING does not equate to justification for the taking of a human life, no i’m sorry… THREE HUMAN LIVES!
Life in jail… if it is worse then he’ll end up killing himself anyway.
And if you feel like picking up a gun because someone cut you off or they are making too much noise you NEED HELP!

  22. Yes Victor,
We all have been very angry at some point or other. But the fact is we didn’t act on it. That’s the big difference here between us and Terry Hough. “we just didn’t do it” to use your words. Terry did. There is no excuse and there is no going back. 3 young people are dead, two were seriously injured and very easily could have died. Only they will know how much suffering they will endure for the rest of their lives as a result of those injuries. It’s not outside the rhelm of possibilities that their lives will be shorter for it. I don’t care what the circumstances were or the history between the victims and the offender…there is no justification for his actions. NONE. He could have walked away and called the police. He chose to violate the law in the worst way possible. We don’t hate Terry on a personal level though many of the families and survivors may (and I wouldn’t blame them). But I feel that when someone does something like this, they should feel the fullest weight under the terrible swift sword of the law directly and swiftly on their shoulders. Terry Hough was feeling violated by the actions of people setting off fireworks on the 4th of July. A day when you would expect to see people setting off fireworks well into the early morning hours. I submit his victimization was scant when compared to the violation he laid on the persons he assaulted with deadly force and obvious intent. If anyone deserved to pay with his life for such an act, it is Terry Hough. Sadly, that didn’t come to pass. So the best we can hope for is that it will lay on his shoulders like weight of the earth itself for many long years to come. That he grow ill from homesickness, missing his wife and children. That he know no comfort as he deserves none. He’ll never attend any of his childrens school functions, or watch them grow, marry and have their famlies. He is now in an institution where his every decision will be made for him. His peers for the most part hardened criminals. He deserves the hell he has created for himself. He deserves not sympathy or sorrow or pity from anyone. I’m sure there are those unaffected by his acts who will be ready to grant it. But before you do, put yourself in the place of the victims and their famlies, and truely ask yourself…if you were them, how quickly would you grant it. Be truthful, if your son or daughter or brother was killed by Terry Hough’s senseless inexcusable fit of rage over fireworks on the 4th of July…would I grant him sympathy? I really doubt it. You see Victor, we are tired of things like this. As a Fire Paramedic, I’ve had to deal with it for over 31 years. It’s ugly and wasteful. The person is always sorry by the time he sees the courtroom and they realize the trouble they are in. But by then it’s way too late. People need to think ahead a little bit, and if they did, we would have a lot less tragity and suffering. I haven’t even meantioned the suffering of Hough’s family which I’m sure is very considerable. Who knows how his children will be developmentally affected. Though, abuse of alcohol, drugs, and lawlessness later in their lives God forbid seems very possible. These things hit the kids very hard. And their peers at school can be very cruel. Victor, there is no excuse for nor no measurement of the damage this act has brought to so many lives. So, all I can say is, think before you act or suffer the hell that is Terrence Hough. Everyone who reads this…think and be vigulent. If there were less of this, it would make my dented tarnished old suit of psychological armor shine a little briter and hold out a few more years in the service of the citizens. Remember we fireman have feeligs too and we do suffer mental stress and intrusive memory sometimes for days over the direct contact and handling of these kind of calls. Put yourself in my shoes to see five people shot, three to death in a strange driveway out of a sound sleep and have to put your hands into it. It’s not a pretty sight, and many of you I’m sure wouldn’t trade places with me at that moment. Then to think it was all caused in this case by someone who of all people, should have known better. No excuse. There is all together too much of this in our world. Oh and Lily, gun control isn’t ever going to solve it. The many tons of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and other harmful street drugs which we are now awash in, have been illegal for great many years. Those laws have had little impact on availability, the ruined lives of the users and the impact both criminal and otherwise on this country. All outlawing personal ownership of firearms will accomplish is to disarm the lawabiding citizens and rob them of what was just recently found by the United States Supreme Court to be an individuaql right, and of their ability to protect themselves from the likes of Terry Hough. Not to meantion to create like street drugs, another huge black market commodity for illegal trade among the lawless. At least now, a criminal has to wonder…is that person armed? If we held people like Terry Hough fully responsible for their acts in the sharp teeth of a criminal justice system that delt with them swiftly and in the face of obvious guilt (as in this case)without mercy, I firmly believe we would have more forward thinking before acting, and we would see far less of this. Ours is a system mired in the muck of bad legal precident, in the hands of liberal lawyers and judges. This is a big factor which brings us to frustration and where we are today.

  23. No one deserved to die that night; it goes without saying. But I’ve no doubt these were punk kids who thought neither law nor even common courtesy applied to them. The local police who failed to issue fines/citations in relation to the repeated noise or firework code violations have blood on their hands as well. Add the father who failed to raise his children with the slightest concern or regard for others to that list, too. He has truly reaped that which he has sown.

  26. I live next to a Terrance Hough and my husband, myself and my two young teenage boys are just waiting for this pshyco to “snap” one day. These types of people have no coping skills whatsoever!! They are extremely anry, miserable lonely individuals who cannot deal with people in a sane, civil manner. They need to be punished to the fullest extent. What ever happened to discussing problems with neighbors in a rational manner? My neighbor (Mike O.) is exactly like this sick individual, someone who flies off the handle at the slightest noises such as lawn mowing and blowing off the lawn!!! We are just waiting to see what this nut case will do next. I pray that the courts do not take these cases lightly. IT’S NOT O.K. TO SNAP because of a little noise every now and then!! GET A GRIP!!! Go move to a retirement community if you can’t handle a little noise!!

  27. NO VICTOR,
I have NEVER once been so insanely angered that I have even thought to pick up a gun and shoot 5 defenseless individuals because they were being a little too noisy (on the 4th of July no less, isn’t that the one night you should expect alot of noise?). It’s sounds like you should seriously seek some anger management counseling if that’s how you really feel!! OH BY THEY WAY VICTOR, this was not just one bad act. This was three unforgivable, evil acts of rage because he is someone who simply has no regard for human life. It seems to me that he is such an angry, bitter, evil excuse for a human being and definately deserves the death penalty.

  28. Victor,
Clearly you are showing that you, along with Terrance Hough, are nuttier than the average “human”. I hope very much that the average person does not “think of killing” people when they annoy them. You should seek help. I actually worry about submitting this because I fear that you will “think of killing” me because I disagree with you. You and Terrance will rot in hell together, along with everyone else who has spoken up on behalf of that monster.

  29. Cheila,
Have you watched any of the clips on this? These were not a bunch of punk kids. These were young adults having a bit of fun on the forth of July. They were all college students and making something of themselves. They seemed to come from loving caring families. Watch the clips. Look at the loss their famlies are going through. On a further note, guess what? Terrance Hough never called 911 that night. He never came out to complain. The first time any of the surviving victims said they even saw him that night was when he came out and began shooting them at point blank range. Close enough for the gun powder from the muzzle flash to melt their clothing. He didn’t even come out and give prior warning. He just stormed out and started shooting. His first victim fell on the first shot and then he proceeded to stand over him and fire two more round into him as he was trying to crawl away. Then he turned the gun on four other people. For gods sake people…there can be no rationalization or any defence of this mans actions. None. Regardless if these were the lowest low lifes in the world, the only punk here was Terrance Hough. So no…the cops have no blood on their hands…they were never called until the shots rang out. Now Mr Hough’s wife has filed for a divorce as he sits rotting in Lorain Correctional Institution as a so called Recption Inmate. Here he is under strict guard and in an evaluation phase to determine his ability to behave and with very little or no privleges until he is placed in a long term facility at great public expense. His Inmate Number is A550442. His sentence is considered served on 01/01/8888. That’s 6,880 years from now. His first Parol hearing is scheduled for 7/2919 or 911 years from now. Plus he has a 3 year “Gun Specification” which has to be served after the max sentence is finished. You know, the more I think about it, this may be worse then death in his case. From the awsome fraturnity of the fire house to the depressing existance and paralyzing lonliness of the prison yard. A very sad thing is that the tax payers of Ohio (of which I am not one) have to pay $56.72 every day to keep him there. Thats $1701.60 every 30 days or $20,419.20 every year in today’s dollars. This cost will go nothing but up. Just think of the schlorships for young people that would buy. Its just your tax money down the drain folks. No value, just a big waste.

  30. i believe this guy deserves to die. anyone who takes anyones life deserve to be punish with their one life. nothing justifies what this guy did. everyday as i see everything that happens in the world i realized we live in a cruel world in which their is no mercy. so much hate among humans, we always lose control over stupid things. for everyone who reads this please think about how we as humans can make this a better world. i honestly think that if in heaven their is peace i hope i was there instead of in the world where i live now where you see so much violance and horrified stories. god bless the family of the victims. my heart is with you and i hope that someday you can overcome the lost.

  31. There were a few young people sitting in a driveway on the 4th of July. Sitting on private proverty isn’t breaking a law. Maybe they did shoot off fireworks later then should have been happening,
but I have the feeling that they weren’t the only fireworks going off in the neighorhood, or in the any similar neigborhoods that night. I also have the feeling that we all have had neigbors that have made noise that wish we didnt. But that doesn’t mean shooting them is the right thing to do.
    Chelia,
“Add the father who failed to raise his children with the slightest concern or regard for others to that list, too. He has truly reaped that which he has sown.”
Really? Do you personally know how this father raised his sons? I am friends with John Feicthner, brother of victim Jake. And concern and regard for others is one everyone’s favorite personality traits about John. So in my knownledge of the how the sons were rasied, concerned and regard for others was one of the most important things.

  32. I don’t believe this guy really gave much thought as to what the results of his
action would be: the lost of his wife, the child he fathered, The facts that he might never go to school activities, have sex with his wife, sit down to dinner with his family,go on vacations with his family, all of the things I do wwith my wife and children because I so-called lost it.He was probably a loose cannon to begin with. Most people learn to live with the antisocial elements within our society. I know it is difficult, you can’t give up your freedom for
nothing. One rash act and you lose everything!
It is better that he serves life without parole that way he get to think about who his wife is sleeping with and what kind of man is helping to raise his child because she will almost certainly get another man.
So,Victor think before you go off the deep end. Think before you act. Ask yourself,is it worth giving up you freedom and spending the rest fo your life locked up with all those sociopaths. In prison yuo have no sayso.
I hope that you don’t take what I am writing the wrong way. Just something to think about before you do something stupid.

  33. i do not feel sorry for him. he was totally stupid to walk out with a gun. he knew going out he was going to shoot people. i feel soryy for his family to have to live with that and the families of the victims that have to live without their loved ones. he should have got the maximum. since he did not get death and hope he is miserable everyday of his life in prison.

  34. Some of you seem to think it was one night of noise on the 4th of July. It was an ongoing problem. They were habitually loud and inconsiderate in the wee hours of the morning. Hough has two young children who were often awakened on weekdays in the middle of the night. For those of you who say “just move” as a homeowner I know that isn’t possible. You invest time, money and yes love into your home. How in the world would they ever get their money out of their property with such rotten neighbors? There are noise ordinances for a reason.
Did those young people deserve to die because their parents never taught them basic consideration for others? No! I constantly remind my two boys to be considerate and polite. And I do tell them they never know who might be unstable and/or have some kind of weapon. That was what happened that night. A man reached a breaking point and snapped. He had exhausted all legal recourse to no avail. He was wrong no doubt and deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail. 4 wasted lives and the pain all involved will live with forever.

  35. I seem to recall hearing something about ongoing squabbles with several of his neighbors, not just the Feichtners. Perhaps he and his wife are among those people who just cannot get along with people. Do I think he just snapped? Not a chance. If he didn’t intend to use the gun he should have left it in the house. I might have believed he ‘snapped’ had he first confronted the young people and then had gotten his gun and shot them. That isn’t what happened. He grabbed his gun went outside and started shooting. I think he was completely aware of what he was doing. I have never believed in the death penalty…thinking that spending the rest of your life in prison was worse, but this case even I think should have gotten the death penalty. I have snapped a time or two in my life of almost 60 years, but the worst I ever did was yell at the person. How can someone claim to not have control of themselves just because they are angry? If there are parents to blame for raising their children badly it would be Mr. Houghs’ parents for not teaching him how to control himself.

  36. I just want to say to the families of bruce, jacob, katherine, and to donny and katherine that I am terribly sorry for your loss, and to all those who knew those beautiful people.
Terrence and his wife are very very scary people, I only hope the kids have someone to teach them coping skills that do not include killing. Their behavior, and I say their, because Regina fueled these killings. We live in a world with noise, desired noise and undesired. I would suggest that we cannot control every situation, we must control our’s.
It is a sad statement that if this family could not find silence that the parents would not subject their children to such hatred from parents who are obligated to teach their children productive coping skills. Coping skills 101 says: switch bedrooms with kids, install further noise barriers, move to an apartment, buy a mobile home. Now mature adults would have found an alternative to destroying those lives of the victims but their own children. That fourth of July it wasnt just three deaths but the deaths of innocence of ther Houghs two children.
I am ashamed of others comments that are cruel and evil towards the victims and their families.
To Roland Feichtner I cannot express enough how I am so sorry for your loss, to the Anderson’s I am so sorry for your loss of what seemed a beautiful son, or brother, and to the family of Katherine, I am so sorry for your loss, their wasnt one killed their was three, I never thought their was just one victim, i always thought their were three losses of life, each as important the other.
    Sincerely,
    Georgina

  37. addendum: Not Anderson, but Bruce, I never knew him but i cannot erase his smile from my face, he will remain a light that can never be extinguished.
If their is to be a death penalty, in my opinion it should have been this one. I just cant forget the defense attorney saying I just dont see why Terrence should be put to death, I kept thinking, and the three he massacred did? What a slap in the face to all victims everywhere.
To the firefighter who posted a blog, I never thought of Terrence Hough as a firefighter, to me a firefighter is september 11th, not 4th of July 2007, to me are the firefighters we never hear about, but know will be there if needed. To me a firefighter is one who saves lives, not one who takes them. Their is no chance that Terrence Hough could be confused with a Hero, he was and is a ticking time bomb who felt he could dictate to others the rules, running out in to the street brandishing a gun telling a motorcycle rider to not use a public street. At the very least he had been with his behavior putting at risk the lives of his own children both physically and mentally, should he be sent away to prison for life or for death.
The hero is Roland Feichtner who lost a wife and raised three children alone, I kept thinking that the Houghs had to know that they were raised without a mother and would if anything want to show compassion to Roland’s kids. He moves in to the neighborhood and expects others to change their lives for him. I say this with 100% certainty that had he been a decent man, those kids would have bent over backwards to help the Houghs in anyway possible, it was no accident that they did not get along, Terrence and Regina moved in like a bulldozer and made every effor to intimidate and scare the Feichner’s. I know that myself if someone is trying to bully me I put on a mask of impenatrability so that I don’t sucuumb to bully type people. The only thing those kids are guilty of is not knowing they were dealing with a murderous monster who one day would take their lives; I do not know anyone who can forsee their own deaths, if they did they would have been long gone.

  38. I am 100%certain that Mikey and the rest of people who are cruel are either Regina Hough herself or her companions, considering the source it isnt an insult it is a display of the level of maturity of a rabid animal.

  39. I hope Regina has the decency to move, to give her kids a second chance, to recognize that the victims family need to not be reminded, i sold my house in this market, i would have foreclosed if it meant allowing rage to takeaway from my children my presence. i would not want them to know their father was a murderous rabid animal.

  40. THERE WAS NO EXCUSE TO WHAT THIS FIREMAN DID. I’M GLAD THEY GAVE HIM LIFE. IT IS PROBABLY WORSE THAN DEATH. EVERYDAY HE WILL BE WONDERING WHO HIS WIFE IS WITH. WHAT OTHER MAN HIS CHILDREN ARE CALLING DADDY.

  41. the death penalty was not going to happen in this case no matter how many people are mad about it. yes we know it was premeditated. we all agreed to that. but when you make your decision as a jury, you are given instructions to base facts of the case with the law. also, if one of the 12 says no, the answer is no death penalty. it does not matter whether or not the other 11 want it. so do not call us “assholes”. you were not there. we gave him the heaviest sentence we possibly could. its not the easiest decision in the world to say whether or not someone dies.

  45. of course he deserves everything hes gonna get.. but i was amazed on other aspects of the court room… the defense attny..he knew he was losing a up hill battle… but oh well he got paid.. and the d.a. i’m glad i was’nt on the stand, i would have punched him…as soon as he started yelling at me.. and getting way way to close.. and the judge.. who was way to busy blowing her nose and typing on her keyboard could it be that she was instand messaging someone and not keeping her mind in the court room??, and oh snapping???? we all snapped at one time or another.i feellike snapping everytime my neighbors dog shits in my yard but that does nt mean i’m gonna kill him.. as a son and nephew of 2 retired fireman, i can relate..i seen my dad come home all strung out after watching a person being burnt up so bad no one knew who they were, and then us kids bugging him..and him snapping and yelling at us, thank god the guns were unloaded at out place.. but there was just something missing from this trial.. no one will know what it is,believe me theres something someone is not telling us.. i believe there was alot of lying going on also in the trial.. cops and witness’s and when people say there is no lying in a trial go ahead and believe them right before you drink your kool aid

  46. when they said that this man was not mental in any way i was shocked. to me there is no way that a man who fights to protect our country but rights against cepebrating it is obvusily insane in more then one ways. and i dont care if he snapped or wat happend. he can snap his little head off for all i care the point is that he wasent unconscious when he made the decicions to kill those poor people he was fully aware of his actions
my heart goes out to the familys of the victims

  47. in my opinon we would have alot less murders in this country if we gave out more death penaltys, maybe that would make idiots like this one think before he “snapped”

  49. in my opinon we would have alot less murders in this country if we gave out more death penaltys, maybe that would make idiots like this one think before he “snapped”

  50. The attitude that created the problem—-hostility and indifference—–cannot be the same attitude that resolves it. There should be no death penalty anymore. This is the New Millennium, not the Dark Ages when we threw men to the lions. Come on! Mr. Haugh is just as much a victim as the people he killed. Think about it. Hough gave up his freedom and his family and his good standing in the community for one split second of rage. That’s a LOT to reconcile in his soul. Let him live and contribute the wisdom of his experience to society. It’s obvious from the reactions posted that say, “Kill him! Kill him!” that there are still people who desperately need what Hough can teach them by example. It’s time for healing.

  51. Hopefully he can get an appeal and get some better lawyers and get out of prison one day.
What kind of “good kid” taunts a person of authority for years and at the end dares the guy to shoot him? People can only take so much harassment and yes they do snap. It’s happened many times before and will happen many times in the future.
Kids need better parenting. This liberal BS isn’t working.

  52. AS A PSYCHIATRIST NURSE FOR 25 YEARS, I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS A DIAGNOSIS OF “JUST SNAPPED” TOO MANY PEOPLE USE THIS AS A DEFENSE, SO WHEN THE NEED FOR THIS TYPE OF DEFENSE IS USED AS IN THE ANDREA YATES CASE IT DOESN’T WORK. TERRANCE HOUGH, WALKED CALMLY OUT OF HIS HOME, ARMED WITH A GUN. WALKED UP TO THE FIRST KID AND SHOT HIM. ONE WOULD THINK THAT AFTER DOING THIS, HEARING THE OTHERS SCREAMING HE WOULD HAVE BECOME “UNSNAPPED” HOWEVER AS HE WALKED BACK TO HIS HOME, HE HEARD THE POOR GIRL SCREAMING OUT OF FEAR, CALMLY WALKED UP TO HER AND SHOT HER TWICE, THEN HER BOY FRIEND TWICE THE THE OTHER COUPLE. APPARENTLY HE WAS USING THE EXCUSE THAT HIS CHILDREN WERE SCARED OF THE NOSE THAT NEIGHBORS MADE, I GUESS THAT HE DID NOT THINK THAT ONE OF HIS CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW WHILE HE WAS BLOWING AWAY THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HE SHOULD BE ON DEATH ROW. THE JURORS MUST BE SNAPPED THEMSELVES TO GIVE THIS MAN LIFE……

  53. He murdered three people over firecrackers on the 4th of July ???? I find that incredulous. They were noisy, God help us all. I know in my 20’s I had a whole bunch of noisy parties. thank God my neighbors were not nuts and come a blazing at me. Am I more considerate now in my late 40’s of course, but come on these were kids, kids who will never grow up and have the opportunity to have kids, grandkids and hopefully maybe great grandkids. He should get LIFE NO PAROLE. Death is up to God.

  54. Face it, T. Hough found an excuse to use his arsenal and commit mass murder. Most of us have to take noise on the 4th of July and New Year’s for granted. If you can’t stand it, then live away from other people! There are always options, and he picked his. A true monster.

  55. I can honestly say I’ve lived in situations where noise and other problems caused me to be very angry at my neighbors enough to wish them a horrible fate. But I can also say I never entertained the thought of going out and killing them. I may have fantasized wringing necks, etc but never bloody violence. Therefore this case mystifies me. So many other options were available including speaking once again with the neighbors about the noise, calling the police, and even retaliating in a more peaceful manner. And of course there’s always the option of selling and moving to another neighborhood. I once just left a home I lived in leaving the mortgage and house behind in order to avoid confrontation with really awful neighbors who came into my yard whenever I was away and leave really hateful notes for my children to find. I was never tempted, however to use a gun. The down-side is just too great for any rational person to consider. Too many other ways to go. Even starting over in a new neighborhood is better than what happened here. I can only assume this firefighter was suffering some post tramatic stress from his job duties or other mental condition to take this tact to deal with these issues. His children will always suffer. The neighbors will always suffer. I think there’s a real lesson in all of this. Inconsiderate neighbors need to place themselves in the shoes of their fellow neighbors rather than act in ways that create unsafe or unpleasant environments where they live. We all know that only understanding can really solve problems. But we also know that the human condition will continue to include incidents such as this Hough-Feictner case. So sad for all. We seem to only learn from negative experience. And only some of the time.

  56. I read above a comment from someone who hails from Canada. It might be important for that Canadian to remember their own freedom is highly dependant on the USA in large part. Without us so called “assholes” Canada would have been over-run by any number of other more powerful nations long ago. Only the strength and kindness of the USA which Canadians somehow take for granted is the saving grace for Canada and many other nations around the globe. Think about a world where the USA didn’t exist. Think the Russians or Chinese would allow your comments without retribution?? Duh?? Think again, if you do! The USA has been a great neighbor and friend of Canada and vice-versa for too long for any so-called Canadian to bash this wonderful nation. If we do have any faults, it may be the lenghts we go to defend other nations when they are busy spitting in our face. Check out our current national debt, a good portion thereof went to military spending in an attempt to provide a peaceful world for all nations to live in. Have we ever crossed the border and attacked Canada? It would be so easy to do. But our nation is too good to do that. Count your blessings, “GLAD TO BE CANADIAN”. you were born in a nation like Canada that shares may of the same values as the USA. And the last time I checked the Canadian police blotter I don’t remember Canada having the market cornered on virtue.

  57. In reply to Linda (above) I can only say you have your facts wrong. This man Hough didn’t just go calmly over with a gun and begin shooting as you state. Reread the testimony. He went over with the gun and was taunted by the victims who nearly dared him to shoot. I read that testimony and it was clear that these so called “kids” were overgrown immature individuals in their twenties who had created more problems as they got older and bigger for this neighbor who worked shift work as he served the community. I don’t agree with your assessment based on facts. Without being there and in that situation you cannot judge whether Hough snapped or not. I don’t know either. But I will only say that all things considered, something happened that caused this otherwise peaceful individual to do what he did. I also want to say I don’t agree with what he did, but something drove him over the edge. The cop who lived across the street commented that the Feichtner twentysomething shouted across the street after midnight (that’s past the 4th of July). The Feichtners weren’t exactly squeaky clean either. Shame is it had to come to this.

  58. Had the fireworks on the 4th been the only issue with the youngsters next door, I could understand the callous attitudes of those who just say Mr. Hough should get the death penalty. However, there were multiple complaints from various neighbors on these young people over a period of time. This does not justify their deaths or the fact that Mr. Hough has to pay for his crimes. As the mother of a son and a daughter in their 20’s I would be equally horrified if someone killed them over “just fireworks on the 4th of July.” But, “just fireworks on the 4th of July” is not the case here…Mr. Hough without question committed a horrific act, one for which he will pay but I would be ashamed to have raised the children who had no respect whatsoever for the many fine people in that community. The neighbors that had the right to live peacefully around these 20-something young people, in spite of the fact that the 20-somethings appeared to be inconsiderate and ill mannered neighbors with no regard for anyone around them. Being in your 20’s is not an excuse for blatant disregard of those around you or an excuse to do whatever you want regardless of whom you offend. The multiple police calls made against these young “adults” makes it sound like they made most who lived around them miserable. They appeared to have had no regard for those neighbors who HAD TO LIVE IN THE CITY in order to maintain their careers and JUST MOVE, is not a solution. Anyone who has moved before knows how expensive it is, and I don’t know anyone who is not wealthy that can afford to JUST MOVE because they have noisy, inconsiderate, young punk neighbors! I suppose all the many who complained against them should have just moved, perhaps the entire neighborhood should have allowed themselves to be run out by the inconsiderate behavior of the 20-something’s who were never taught to have consideration for others. Perhaps they should
have been allowed to have the neighborhood to themselves? Whatever, wake up America! We are flushing our country down the toilet by making excuses for bad behavior on the part of our youth. I DO NOT CONDONE WHAT MR. HOUGH DID, but I can understand how endless months of aggravation with their behavior could make a normally decent, law abiding citizen snap. Mr. Hough will pay, his family is paying, the victims loved ones are paying, the neighbors are paying. Sad fact of the matter is, had these young people been the least bit considerate of their neighbors in the past and just lived in that neighborhood like decent law abiding citizens and good neighbors, “just fireworks on the 4th of July” would probably have never pushed Mr. Hough to the brink of sanity. Shame on the mothers & fathers who didn’t teach their children to be respectful of those around them…Had you done your jobs as parents, this entire horrible event may very well have been avoided! Long story short, one night of fireworks on the 4th of July did not cause this, Mr. Hough having “just one bad night” did not cause this. Many, many, repeated acts of inconsiderate behavior on the part of the youngsters killed, caused this. It was avoidable and it’s sad that everyone left behind has to suffer because we as a nation do not teach our young to have respect for others!

Unfortunately for he and his family, Mr. Hough, and everyone else involved in this tragedy are suffering the consequences for the bad parenting of the young people killed. Their blatant disregard for everyone besides themselves is ultimately what caused this.

  60. I have only heard of this through the TV coverage. In my opinion, Regina pushed Terry over the edge – she was the one calling the police. I can only think he listened to it for so long – could not relocate his family – I really think he had a lapse in sanity when his anger took over. I am glad he didn’t get the death penalty. If the young people were so aware of being quiet around the neighbors do you think they would be shooting off fireworks after midnight?

  61. I have been watching this trail on court TV and I will tell Jeanette that the elderly neighbors who lived with these victims for the last 20 + years had nothing but GOOD things to say about these KIDS. The only time Regina had anything to say to the other neighbors was to complain about these kids. Maybe I missed something but I didn’t hear any complaints except from the Houghs. If hough was a firefighter then he should have been friends with many policemen who would have talked to the neighbors for them. I think the guy was just a hot head that didn’t even like himself much less people in general. DESERVES THE SAME SENTENCE HE GAVE THESE POOR KIDS

  64. I have heard on multiple news broadcasts on several different networks that there were MANY complaints on multiple occasions when the police were called on these young people by various persons in the neighborhood. I’m sure their repetitive bad behavior combined with any pressures Mr. Hough may have felt by his wife or family when combined with the fact that he suffered from insomnia led to his extremely unreasonable response to yet another disregard for himself and his neighbors by the youths that were killed. Sleep deprivation especially when combined with other factors can make people do things they would not ordinarily do. As a matter of fact, sleep deprivation alone can make a person hallucinate and do irrational things WITHOUT other extreme outside influences. If Linda is truly a psychiatrist, she may want to catch up on the latest studies on the human mind and the many complicated situations that can TRULY cause a person to quite literally snap. I have read many psychology related articles in which a person reacted irrationally under less severe circumstances than those of Mr. Hough. I also have to agree with the comments of Albert in that you seem to have your facts, as they’ve been stated on the many networks, wrong. The situation was not as simple or black/white as many seem to believe. As a matter of fact, the news reports I’ve seen, nothing about that fateful night was “calm” as you stated. The mere fact that Mr. Hough led a respectable life with no prior offenses whatsoever and served the community in which he lives should say a lot as to his “normal” character. From all of the articles I’ve read and all of the news reports I’ve seen, this was totally out of character for him. I would have to believe that extreme circumstances existed which literally pushed the man over the edge. If Mr. Hough had led a disgraceful life as so many others that are in front of a jury, with repeat offenses and a blatant disregard for the law, I could understand the callous attitudes of those who just want to see him fry but he didn’t. He was until that fateful night, a decent law abiding, community serving gentleman. Show some mercy on if nobody else, his family and allow him to live out his life inside the walls of a jail. This alone will be probably be a more horrible fate for him, someone who quite honestly will not “fit in” with his fellow inmates.

  65. I cant even read some of these posts its disgusting. This man ended 3 young lives and some of you are referring to them as young noisy punks.? Are u serious? Their kids. Their young.KIDS ARE LOUD@! Does it merit a death sentence for them? Apparently some of you think so, but Mr Hough can MURDER 3 PEOPLE but yet his death sentence isnt appropriate for you. Did they deserve to be shot at and killed because it was the 4th of july and God forbid we do fireworks on the 4th of july!!! Have some damn respect. I agree with one of the victims fathers during the trial…So what if they were loud..They played basketball outside for Christ sake its not like they were shooting drugs in the drivway…basketball!! I can not believe people are belittling their lives and defending this man. Mr hough had 11 guns in the house. 11. He was itching to pull the trigger and those innocent kids did not deserve to die. Have some respect people.

  66. Thank you, Jim for expressing compassion for Haugh. I agree with you. I think 15 years would have been more than enough time in prison for his crime—-out in 8 to 10 for good behavior. My feelings are in no way meant to diminish the magnitude of the crime or disregard the grief and anguish of the survivors and their loved ones. I’m simply shedding light on the fact that there are many more people in pain because of this outcome, including Haugh himself. Like Albert, I watched the trial and paid special attention to the dynamics at work that caused this tragedy. I am not convinced that this firefighter killed those 3 people with malice or intent. I do not perceive him to be a repeat offender or a further threat to society. He deserves to have his life back one day, which I’m sure he would live much differently. Patricia and Jeanette, he didn’t kill those 3 people over noise on the 4th of July. No one ever snaps over ONE incident or anything so insignificant. This tragedy was the culmination of years of indifference and hostility. The underlying issue was r-e-s-p-e-c-t. Haugh did indeed snap that night, and we know this from the words and behavior of Jason Feichtner himself. His best friend testified on the stand that Jason saw Haugh with the gun and challenged him: “Whaddaya gonna do, Terry, shoot me? Put the gun down and go back into the house!” This is the same best friend who tried to convince the jury that everyone knew Haugh was a loose cannon, that he had a hair-trigger temper. Really? Hmmm… If this were true, Jason would never have put his life in jeopardy by being so carelessly dismissive. Obviously, Haugh was NOT normally an intimidating character. It was completely out of character for him to threaten the neighbors, even though he’d complained many times about the disruptions after courtesy hours. Hough wasn’t even effective in gaining Jason’s cooperation, despite the history of talking and pleading and lodging formal complaints. It’s as if Haugh’s feelings didn’t matter. That’s got to weigh heavily on the heart and mind of a firefighter willing to sacrifice his life for others. He gives and gives but can’t even get any appreciation or respect from his neighbors. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to predict that this antagonistic situation was going to end badly. My heart goes out to all of you in your time of healing.

  67. Persons between the ages of 20-30 are young ADULTS, NOT KIDS and should act accordingly when living amongst others who may not appreciate their loud music, parties and fireworks into the wee hours of the morning. They were not living the middle of a college campus where such behavior is the norm, their neighbors were hard working citizens who deserved a little courtesy, which according to the multiple police reports, they didn’t give. NO, THEIR BEHAVIOR DID NOT WARRANT OR JUSTIFY THIER DEATHS BUT IT DEFINITELY CONTRIBUTED TO THEM!!! Because the young people lost their lives, does not change who and what they were when they were here which was disruptive, disrespectful members of their neighborhood.

  68. Jeanette,
the very last sentence of your apathetic post is one of saddest things ive ever read.
-Im not really for or against the death penalty & agree with you that Mr. Hough finishing his life out behind bars with his convictions of what he has done is probably a far worse punishment than the release of death, but to talk of those YOUNG ADULTS who lost their lives as if all “they were here which was disruptive, disrespectful members of their neighborhood” is beyond callous & cold hearted.
I am done with this site. My thoughts go out to the victims and the wife and children of the Houghs.

  69. i’ve had some pretty rambunctious neighbors. but i also have some pretty wild kids. one is autistic, there are a lot of behaviors that he cant control and he can have a good hour long meltdown. i would hope that somebody came to me first or think really hard to themselves to get a better understanding rather than them getting so fed up with the noise not knowing a damn thing thats going on and just knock on my door and cold blooded murder us. its a good thing this man didnt live in an apartment!! i’ve had neighbors throw their bottles over their patio into mine, throw up and be so drunk that they did it over into my patio. all i do is call the security on duty or the police department. over and over and over untill they finally get it!!! THAT WASNT EVEN A HOLIDAY!!! on that note i think that he deserves to never step foot out of jail!! as far as the jury goes. they didnt let him walk free they did what they thought was best. its a system for a reason and i think they came up with the best decision they could. either way he’d probably live out the rest of his life on death row anyway if his state is anything like other death row states.

  70. What constitutes pre-meditated murder? As I watched this on TV my first thought was that when he got out of bed and got the loaded gun then walked outside to confront the neighbors, he also intended on using the gun. What if all people, who had noisy and troublesome neighbors, that were up playing loud music, or in a loud fight after 12:00 am. decided to do the same thing? What makes Him so special? He deserved the death penalty! He didn’t just snap and kill one person, he thought about it and killed two more and wounded two. This case is DISGUSTING!!!!

  71. Life in prison is a death sentence in my opinion. I don’t think Hough will make it. If he feels depressed now just wait until he gets to the Greybar Hotel for the rest of his life.
We all have neighbors who think the neighborhood should revolve around them and their sleeping schedules…it doesn’t work that way however. We all have the right to live our lives and expect to do it without being killed in our driveway no matter what age we are.
If Hough didn’t intend to shoot/kill anyone he should have left his gun in the kitchen.
In regard to Glad to be a Canadian…call me an “asshole” all you want…just don’t call me a Canadian.

  73. Jeanette,
I am far more worried about living next door to someone with an attitude like yours than living next door to someone like the young victims in this case. You keep saying you do not condone what Hough did, yet you keep defending his actions in every comment you make, which leads me to believe you think he was justified in what he did. We have all been pushed by annoying people before, and for sake of argument, let’s say the victims were loud and obnoxious on numerous occasions. Most of us do not go out and kill people, “snapped” or planned out, simply because someone is rude and obnoxious. Since most of us do not do that, that is why those who do are considered dangerous and go to jail. They cannot control themselves like normal human beings, and therefore must be contained like animals. Even if Hough did “snap”, do we really want a person like that getting out of jail at all? I sure don’t. If this could make him snap, what’s to say he wouldn’t again in a different situation? There are no excuses for what he did as far as I am concerned.

  74. No excuse for taking lives… only
God can take lives… that includes the death penalty. Anger is the root of it all, we let ourselves get completely dominated by this terrible reaction to circumstances that we find are not acceptable. We all have made negative emotional decisions at one time or another, we do not have the right to judge, we are not free of sin. This is why we have a legal system, now he will have many years to live with the nightmare and the stigma that goes with killing. I am sure that he is not going to have a holiday in jail, jail is one of the worse places to be, he will have to watch his back at all times. As far as wishing this person dead, that is just as bad as the crimes he has committed. Wishing these things on someone is equal to his bad actions. Only God has the final judgement on his soul. I am truly sorry for the loss on both sides, we all need to take something from this, and that is that we have to take a step back before we find ourselves in such a predicament when faced with anger and unmanageable situations. It is happening way too often, we also had a case here in RI where a police officer was killed by a neighbor due to noise caused by a barbeque and gathering he had. We need more anger management, more outlet for people who are having stressful situations, we need to stop aggravating each other and start learning to get ALONG…. why SO MUCH HATE???? A smile and a have a good day often helps …. yes it does. Forgiveness is hard, believe me it is hard every day….but it makes the heart lighter, it prevents tragedies like this.
Please STOP THE HATE START CARING AND TURN TO PRAYER WHEN THINGS ARE DIFFICULT….

  75. I would have been ok with a death sentence for terry hough, he deserves to die or spend an awful life in prison. This is an awful case and my sympathy is with the families invloved. Not to get everyone riled up BUT, there are crazy, very quick fuse, gun totters all over the place. If you are a menacing, disrespectful punk somneone might shoot you or if you hang with that type trouble will find you. I rememebr when the story came out that cops were called several times in the past and this was a long fued due to asshole neighbors we have all dealt with. Hough was clearly a sick timebomb who caused this atrocity. But the victim statement of the guy that got shot in the arm was very good until he slit his throat with his hands and said to Houghs mom your boys dead. It told me a lot about the kind of pewrson he was.

  76. Don’t any of you (with the exception of a handful) go to church? The fifth post says it all… I pray for the rest of you. By the Grace of God go you…

  77. Mybe Mr. Hough should have moved, but I understand his frustration- the 2nd district won’t respond unless somebody dies…

  78. well mr. Mikey, maybe you should move, and keep your ignorant comments to yourself. Obviously, you have no clue as to what your saying or how your stupid comments make you sound as if you fit right in with the people your speaking of. I can rest assure that you wouldn’t dare speak to the people that your referring to in the manner that you are are on this site, cause your a pussy. Say that shit to their face and see if you get any sleep then, yes you would, however it probably would be on a more permanent basis.

  79. There are two very divided sides here. Obviously, nothing will change that. The only thing we can hope to change is this same result in future circumstances.
There are several people who made comments that the victims’ families should have taught them to be more respectful. Well, doesn’t the same apply to Terry then? For those posting these comments that know Terry personally, we all know he was not RAISED being taught killing is an acceptable way to react to frustration. This was a decision a grown man made. We must assume the same applies to the actions of the people who were shot that day. There is no need to attack any of the victims or thier families.
As far as who the victims are here, the list is not three. The victims are the three dead, the two injured, all of thier families, thier friends, the people who were there and witnessed the shooting, the Hough children, Regina, the rest of the Hough family, the police who witnessed the scene, the Cleveland Fire Department, etc. And although by his own hand, Terrence Hough has also lost his children, his wife, his life as he knew it. This is one of the problems with violence, you don’t really realize how far reaching the effects are until you look at the situation from both sides.
If you say you condone the death penalty in this situation, are you any better than Terrence Hough? Why would you take a childs father from them, under any circumstances? Death does not beget death. It needs to stop somewhere.
I do not have any particular views on the death penalty. I am glad that I am not the one making the decision and I accept the decisions made by juries and judges who have reviewed all the facts of the cases they decide. Add them to the victim list as well.
    .
My condolonces to all involved, including the Hough family.

As for the Fire Fighter who posted here, I understand your frustration at the link between Hough and the CFD. As all of this news coverage broke on July 5 there was a fire fighter from 33’s house that anonymously made a comment about Hough to the news. My man, who was CFD, and a very good one at that, was furious! He said “THAT is the problem with the fire Department. You have one asshole that just wants a little attention. This is supposed to be a BROTHERHOOD. You just say NOTHING!” I would like to stress he DID NOT know Hough Jr. I watched my love come come exhausted & unappreciated many mornings. He wasn’t the only one though. It’s what every Fire Fighter does. The whole situation is tragic. Like it or not, though, this guy was the same hero you are for many years before this tragedy occurred. One day doesn’t take that. Hopefully it never happens again.

  80. Cheila your comment is the only one I agree with. Yes he did a horrendous crime but everyone forgets the multiple times they called police for the noise day and night, no peace at all for that family who worked but also had 2 small children, all while the teenage boys’ dad didn’t do anything to correct the boys behaviors. Police never did anything either. Why did he needed to move? Did he needed to continue pulling up with the disrespect?? Who knows what those boys called this guy and his wife when he approached them and told them to stop the continuous partying. Sometimes people don’t understand because they were not the ones living the hell..
