In some ways, pairing Def Leppard and Poison together doesn’t seem like a good idea. Leppard is a British act associated with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Poison is an American act that emerged out of the ’80s glam metal scene. But these two bands (they also toured together last summer) do have one thing in common — they know how to please their fans. In front of a half-capacity crowd at Quicken Loans Arena last night, both groups resorted to arena rock clichés (sing-a-longs, hand-slapping, acoustic segments) during their respective sets that, while entertaining, ultimately rang hollow.

Jeff has been covering the Cleveland music scene for more than 25 years now. On a regular basis, he tries to talk to whatever big acts are coming through town. And if you're in a local band that he needs to hear, email him at jniesel@clevescene.com.

  1. “Arena-rock cliches”? Who do you think originated them 35 years ago? Not a cliche for the ones who started it.

  2. Great show but I’d agree it would have chosen a better pairing for each band. Vids of the concert can be seen on my YouTube channel. Search Rnroutlaw1

  3. The fact that the reviewer THOUGHT they toured together last proves that they did tour together not long ago and repackaging them together this soon was a bad idea. Hence they only drew half the house. Also, in 2009 they had Cheap Trick with them as well and Cheap Trick add a lot more to the draw than does Lita Ford.
