Animals lovers in Canton, OH issued an “Amber Alert” of sorts earlier this week for a feline friend that was spotted roaming around the city with a plastic bottle stuck to its head.

As of early Friday morning, social media commenters on the Friends of Stark County Animal Shelter’s Facebook page report that, thanks to community efforts, the cat has been located.

The hubbub began on Wednesday, when animal advocate Toby Franks posted a photo and a call for help in locating the cat that had apparently gotten itself into a rather tight spot.

The photo immediately took off on social media gaining thousands of shares among concerned community members who searched high and low for the poor creature and sent virtual prayers to the kitty gods.

Luckily for the cat, their efforts paid off.

  1. …and – hopefully – some of those who sent out the SOS – and have a bit of room in their homes and hearts – trekked over to the Stark County Humane Society/Animal Shelter to find a new friend or make a small donation.

  2. The Stark County Humane Society sits on over 5million in assets yet could not help this cat OR refer the caller to the people that could. There is no thanks to SCHS.

  3. id love to see a pic of kitty sans bottle?? how did kitty get found and helped? whats the scoop? SHAME SCHS!!! SHAME ON YOU!

  4. Did you know to give the humane society any cat it’s a 50.00 fee up front? And then that cat typically does not have a long life after that. Poor kitties.

  5. The SCHS is a worthless entity for the Stark County Area. Heck they probably don’t even know how to trap a cat nor do they probably even own a trap. Folks if you are going to give a donation to any animal rescue in Stark Co. (besides your favorite small rescue) don’t waste your money on Stark County Humane Society. Instead give your money to an organization which truly is A NO KILL. That place is Jade’s Rescue. A wonderful group of people who truly CARE FOR THE ANIMALS AND NOT THE MONEY. Also Toby (North, thought I forgot your nickname didn’t you?) Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being involved in saving this kitty. I’m sure that kitty would lick your face off now if it meets you.

  6. All the humane society really does is put animals to sleep and take money. I made the mistake of rescuing a stray cat once, and the humane society charged me almost $150 to accept the cat. Never again.
