Corks will pop across the nation tonight, when 35 cities — including Cleveland — participate in the fourth-annual Wine Opener. The Galleria hosts the local outing, which includes (food?) samples from some of the citys top restaurants. Theyll complement all those glasses of cabernet, pinot, and chardonnay youll be downing. Still, says spokeswoman Suzanne Zak, savor the vino: These are very specific wines in limited quantities.
Tonights bash features mostly California-based vintages. La Crema, Kendall Jackson, and Freemark Abbey will serve their best reds and whites. These are definitely wines most people wouldnt ordinarily encounter at the grocery, says Zak.
Meanwhile, chefs from more than two dozen area eateries — including Blue Canyon, Café Sausalito, and Cyrus Waterfront — will prepare some of their tastiest dishes. Plus, auctions run throughout the night, unloading everything from magnums of wine to Napa Valley getaways.
