Tribe team president Mark Shapiro was pretty active on Twitter earlier this year, posting pics, interacting with fans, giving away tickets, and such. And then he disappeared. Hey, Twitter’s not for everyone, and the man’s busy (doing what, we’re not sure), and the team took an unparalleled nosedive in the standings, and…

None of that was really why he stopped tweeting. It’s because people on the internet are mean bastards. Via Crain’s Joel Hammond:

  1. He deserves everything and anything that was said to him. I am still astonished at promoting him to president for being a failure in his previous lower position. Now we have failure on an even more disastrous and grand scale! The president has power!

  2. OMg How the hell you gonna live in Cleveland and not have a thick skin? We are so made of tougher stuff then that! You better man up dude or you will get eaten alive here lol!

  3. Maybe if he cried about it he would feel better?

Thanks to his great leadership and the wonderful leadership of our owner, no one wants to come here to play except washed-up veterans looking for a last hurrah. We can’t attract anyone to play here, and the glory days of 95 and 97 seem to be slipping further and further away.
