The blog, which unsurprisingly helps apartment hunters find apartments, compared the ratio of people to the number of music spots, bars, breweries and clubs to come up with their results.
Using that data, places like L.A., New York and Chicago (with their huge populations) didn’t quite make the cut, surprisingly leaving three Ohio cities in the Top 10. Cleveland landed at No. 5 (just edging out Pittsburgh), but Dayton and Cincinnati came in at 3 and 2, respectively.
In its rankings explanation, Apartment Guide had this to say about Cleveland: “Expect plenty of live music in the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, plus breweries and legendary late-night bites like pierogies and Polish Boys. Cleveland is also home to Brewnuts, where the donuts are made with craft beer. Enough said.”
They also let slip that the average monthly Cleveland rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,319, which is more than the other Ohio spots on the list.
Here’s a look at the Top 10:
10. Orlando, Florida
9. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
8. Portland, Oregon
7. New Orleans, Louisiana
6. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
5. Cleveland, Ohio
4. Green Bay, Wisconsin
3. Dayton, Ohio
2. Cincinnati, Ohio
1. Saint Louis, Missouri

The sad part of this list is you can say Cleveland nightlife is superior to the four cities ahead of it (St Louis No 1, really?!) – The Apartment Guide seems like a suspect publication at best…
I love how instead of endorsing the city your publication is named after you make a headline sounding shocked about it being recognized positively and basically shit on the city in the process. Way to go.
@amazed clevelander, I dont believe that was the intent, and dont read this that way. This is an absurd list. St. Louis is a decent tier 2 town but this is a really unusual list. I know because I said so, ok?
To these clowns, nightlife obviously means nothing more than getting shitfaced in a bar or a brewery or club, and listening to shitty music, live or otherwise, while drinking overpriced local beers. Cleveland offers a lot more than that, if you know where to look and know how to act like a grown-up instead of a clown.
Not really a list to be all that proud to be on, and to be fifth on it is not something to be proud of, either. These stupid “Best of…” lists are mostly pulled out of the listmakers posterior orifices. You can’t make this shit up? Don’t bet on it…they do. They’re just shilling for their blog. Don’t waste your time.
This list clearly states it isn’t ranking the quality of the nightlife so mochas the ratio of nightlife clubs/bars to residents. Major difference. Your headline could read also Cleveland finishes behind Dayton and Green Bay in nightlife rankings.
This list is terrible haha
