In celebration of the progress made in cleaning up Northeast Ohio’s waterways, RTA riders can hop on any route tomorrow without being charged. With free rides, folks can easily check out any of the events planned for the 50th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River fire.

The Cuyahoga50 events mark the 50th anniversary of when the Cuyahoga River caught on fire for the 13th time, way back on June 22, 1969. The fire was considered comparatively “mild,” but after making it into Time Magazine, became a nationally prominent event that spurred environment action.

Since then, the Cuyahoga River has gone from having no visible life to hosting more than 60 species of fish. Cuyahoga50 aims to teach the history of the riverway, while also addressing current threats to our water. And tomorrow, thanks to a $75,000 grant from local non-profit organizations, riders can get there for free.

  1. Free rides so the troublemakers can come join in. Its not free. RTA is giving taxpayer money away without permission. How magnanimous of them. The recruiters will be out in force to collect for political purposes and the taxpayers pay the transport bill.
