“No one makes money on peace,” -Dennis Kucinich
Former Cleveland boy-mayor Dennis Kucinich has designated a treasurer for the Ohio Governor’s race. That means he can start raising money, even though he hasn’t picked a running-mate (Lieutenant Governor) or filed all the necessary paperwork.

The potential run was first reported by Cleveland.com’s Seth Richardson and Tweeted by statehouse reporter Jeremy Pelzer.

Kucinch would join a crowded Democratic field that includes Richard Cordray, “Hayloft Bill” O’Neill, and the four feisty candidates from the ideastream debate last month.

Having served in the United States House of Representatives and having run for President twice, Kucinich has state and national name recognition. He is an odd figure, though. At 71 years old, he has most recently made news as a Fox News contributor and a pal of Syrian butcher Bashar Al-Assad. In recent local news, he set off alarms when he entered the unlocked Board of Elections building the Saturday before the September, 2017, primary.   

At Scene, we’re eagerly awaiting the release of his book, The Division of Light and Power, which chronicles his battle for Muny Light back in the 70s. Based on an earlier estimate, the tome could be published sometime this year.

    Yeah, I know Dennis is a punch line at this point, but “boy-mayor?” That joke is probably older than your parents.

  4. Heads-up, Sam…folks in their twenties…and even teens in some places…are running for office…and sometimes they even win. By today’s electoral standards, Dennis was an old fart. He was 31 when he was elected Mayor. Which means that by today’s standards…of humor…it ain’t such a clever snark anymore.
