[image-1]Austin Brizee, a second-year trumpet player with The Ohio State University’s marching band, kicked a 55-yard field goal after band practice on Tuesday.

Brizee is from Lyndhurst. He and the rest of the The Best Damn Band in the Land will perform during Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl.

Also riding on the kick was a bet: one Chipotle burrito, which Brizee earned wholeheartedly. One source tells Scene that he went with sofritas. Not only did he nail the kick, but it was enough to grab the attention of Urban Meyer. While he didn’t get a personal response from the man himself, he did get a tryout invite from the team’s assistant director of player personnel.

  1. The most legendary walk-on kicker in Ohio State history is Tom Klaban, who nailed four field goals to secure a 12-10 victory over Michigan in the 1974 regular season finale. His boots helped secure a Rose Bowl trip, which was made official after a post-game vote by the Big Ten athletic directors. Klaban – who, as a youngster, joined his family in escaping the brutal clutches of the Iron Curtain while under a hail of gunfire from Czech border guards – took pregame tips from a personal trainer – his sister – because “she is the only one who understands my soccer style.” Coach Woody Hayes awarded Klaban a game ball and full scholarship, which was humbly appreciated by the gridiron hero: “I’m a walk-on, and at Ohio State walk-ons don’t get a scholarship until they’ve proved themselves.”
