According to court documents, the officer is also being charged with interfering with civil rights. Hubbard, who was dismissed of all charges following his arrest, currently has a federal civil case against Amiott as well, which is pending.
The Euclid Fraternal Order of Police union, instrumental in Amiott’s rehiring, released a statement expressing their dislike of the new charges.
“Officer Amiott was attempting to effect a lawful arrest and the suspect resisted,” Union President Dave Trend Trend said in the statement. “Officer Amiott, who was injured in the encounter, took the measures that he reasonably believed to be necessary to effect the arrest and protect himself from further harm.”
Amiott is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 12. He has been put on administrative duty in the meantime.
This incident is not an isolated case for Amiott, and his misdeeds were also included on the Serial podcast last year, just one of many of the Cleveland stories told.

This despicable moron is the very definition of a stereotypical cop, got his ass repeatedly whooped on in high school (I know this for a fact) and now seems to enjoy getting violent and lording it over people who are now weaker than or just afraid of, tangoing with a crooked cop.
The statement by the FOP is 100% laughable, any decent officer or trained combatant would probably be able to show you several different ways he could’ve carried out that arrest without mounting a grounded opponent and punching him repeatedly in the face. Let’s also not forget this wasn’t his first offense, either.
To the decent cops out there, I get it, a certain camaraderie is essential to watching each other’s backs in the field while performing a dangerous job. We get it, but you need to start getting rid of the extremists, racists and crooked cops on your own. Somethings are more important than that thin blue line. This is why people end up resenting law enforcement, you want everyone else to be honest and follow the rules, but don’t do so yourselves, or you look the other way while your fellow officers lie, cheat, steal, harass and abuse. It’s the literal textbook definition of hypocrisy. Is that what you wanted to be when you were a child, a hypocrite? Something tells me that it wasn’t.
Bottom line, this guy has no business carrying a badge, and/or a firearm ever again in the capacity of law enforcement. Do it yourselves and don’t waste the publics time and tax dollars backing crooked racists like this and I bet you’d see a hell of a lot more respect, especially from the younger generations who don’t believe you deserve it by default just because you CHOSE to enter a dangerous occupation.
We all know this isn’t going to happen, because everyone just wants to be pals instead of taking the hard road and doing what’s right. After all, as McNulty said on The Wire, it’s how Majors become Colonels and Prosecutors become Judges. Everyone stays friends, everyone has a future and meanwhile not only is the system screwed, but so are officers and civilians who will continue to be at odds for as long as they see the hypocrisy of so called justice. If you think we aren’t watching, think again, and remember this when you ask yourself why people don’t like, or have respect for law enforcement. Time to clean the shit out of your own gutters.
