Cleveland Hopkins Airport is Dealing With a Mouse Problem in Concourse C

Travelers passing through Concourse C at Cleveland Hopkins in the past few weeks have been welcomed not only by airport and airline staff but by more than a few mice wandering freely among seats in boarding areas. Videos of the rodents have circulated on social media. One brief clip viewed by Scene showed at least five mice scampering at single gate.

A Hopkins spokesperson confirmed the airport is well aware of the problem, saying staff have taken steps to ameliorate the situation.

“Like any large, historic facility with multiple entry points, pest management is an ongoing effort. After hearing concerns from our partners and staff, we assessed the area and identified a recent uptick in mouse activity on Concourse C.

“Our teams responded immediately and worked with concession partners to inspect food-service areas, seal visible gaps and install new door sweeps. Staff also placed additional traps and are monitoring the area daily.

“These steps are making a clear difference, and activity has decreased significantly over the past several weeks. We will continue to monitor the area closely and take additional action as needed to keep the terminal safe and comfortable for travelers.”

Hopkins was this week once again ranked as the worst mid-sized airport in the country by J.D. Power in its North America Airport Satisfaction Study. Respondents graded Hopkins poorly across all categories. Experts noted that aging facilties like Hopkins generally fare poorly compared to airports that have gone through multi-billion-dollar renovations and expansions.

Hopkins is in the midst of its own $1.6 billion renovation that will bring new parking, expanded TSA areas and a new terminal, which won’t open until 2032.
