Arts Collinwood Benefit

Eat, drink, and support Arts Collinwood from 6 to 10 p.m., this Thursday, Feb. 8, during a special pre-opening party at Cafe Marika, 15601 Waterloo Rd., North Collinwood. The cafe and bakery is the newest project from acclaimed pastry chef and North Collinwood resident Michael Feigenbaum and his wife, Marika; the Feigenbaums also own nationally recognized Hungarian bakery, Lucy's Sweet Surrender, on Buckeye Rd. in Cleveland. A $35 ticket will snag you light bites, bakery, beer, and wine, plus a first look at the snazzy new cafe, and the attached AC Gallery, inside the thoroughly remodeled space that formerly housed Pat's Place bar. While non-profit Arts Collinwood has spent thousands of dollars rehabbing the site, cost overruns have been significant; event planners hope ticket sales will help defray them. Also on tap that evening will be a preview of oil-painter Michael MacNamara's show, which is set to open Feb. 9, and live music by North Collinwood resident Mike Uva. Tix are available by calling 216-692-9500, or can be purchased at the door. As for the cafe's public debut, Feigenbaum is still waiting to complete inspections; hungry would-be visitors can get an update by calling 216-752-0828. --- Elaine T. Cicora
