Founded in 1919, the Print Club of Cleveland (printclubcleveland.org) is just a
few years younger than the Cleveland Museum of Art. The low-profile
group — formed to add to the CMA’s print collection and educate
members about print collecting — holds its 25th annual Fine
Print Fair fundraiser this weekend. Included are etchings, photos,
woodcuts and other types of prints from the 19th century to the
present. Exhibitors range from highbrow shops like Chicago’s Armstrong
Fine Art (which focuses on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso,
Pierre-Auguste Renoir and other late 19th- and early 20th-century
French artists) to collectives that serve contemporary printmakers,
like Flatbed Press of Austin and Cleveland’s Zygote Press. There’s a
$95 preview Friday night, but admission from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday costs $10. It’s at Tri-C Corporate College
(4400 Richmond Rd., Warrensville Heights, 216.707.2579).
Speaking of art and old things from France, Cleveland-based chamber
ensemble Les Délices (lesdelices.org), which specializes in
French baroque music, begins a new series of concerts in art galleries
this weekend at William Busta Gallery. Saturday, October 10 is
the last night to see artist Lori Ott’s show, Debris from a Lost
Campaign — which is neither old nor French. But the musical
program Transcendent Virtuosity, featuring music of Marin Marais, is.
The gallery opens at 7:30 p.m. Musicians Debra Nagy (baroque oboe),
Julie Andrijeski (baroque violin) Josh Lee (viola da gamba) and Michael
Sponseller (harpsichord) will play at 8 p.m. A reception follows.
(William Busta Gallery, 2731 Prospect Ave., 216.298.9071, williamsbustagallery.com)
Tickets: $18-$20.
If you have an old oboe or other musical instrument lying around, or
some art supplies, you can help a Cleveland student who can’t afford
them. Cleveland Neighborhood Arts — a partnership of
urban-arts educators that includes Art House, Arts Collinwood, Broadway
School of Music and the Arts, Chrysanti School of Music, Foluké
Cultural Arts, Joyful Noise Neighborhood Music School, Karamu House,
Passport Project and Rainey Institute — is hosting an instruments
and art-supply drive. Donations can be dropped off at Joseph-Beth Books
Legacy Village (24519 Cedar Rd., Lyndhurst) October 10-12. The
organizations will share the donations. Contact folukeculturalarts.org or call
216.702.0237.
