In Northeast Ohio, a Bob Schmitt home is right up there with a Frank Lloyd Wright or the creation of any other architect of note you can think of. It’s a regional thing, but the longtime Cleveland-area home building family has the kind of sterling reputation for design and quality that has stood the test of time.
Ed, Bob’s brother, built what would be Bob’s personal home in Berea, a mid-century modern stunner that recently hit the market and sold in late January for $995,000. And the comparisons to Wright aren’t far off the mark.
“Ed Schmitt was the architect for this home,” listing agent Dave Johncock at RE/MAX Crossroads Properties told Cleveland.com. “He studied in California and had the opportunity to meet Frank Lloyd Wright. This home was inspired by that style.”
What he created in Berea was this: Four beds, 4.5 baths, 1.2 acres, tongue-and-groove cedar planking, floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere you look, an indoor heated pool, a pool house with lockerrooms and showers, a chef’s kitchen, natural limestone fireplace, a deck over a peaceful stream, an in-law suite with a private kitchen, all adorned in modern updates to a mid-century modern design.
