Looking for something a bit more sinister than apples and pumpkins this fall? Halloween brings out the spooky in all of us and these Northeast Ohio haunted houses and ghostly events are sure to scare the pants off of you. Most of these do run at least a week after Halloween. Carnival of Horrors
1145 West Steels Corners Rd., Cuyahoga Falls
Ever since 2003, Blossom Music Center has transformed into a haunted Halloween experience. There are four different haunted houses that attendees can visit, including an old, abandoned Fun House, the Wicked Woods, the Insane Asylum and the Freakshow in 3-D Terrorvision. It runs now until Nov. 1, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

1010 Towpath Trail, Broadview Heights
For over 30 years, Bloodview has been a familiar name among haunted attractions in Northeast Ohio. Created by the Legion of Terror, the world’s oldest improvisational horror production company, Bloodview offers three attractions for one price, including the Gorehouse, billed as Bloodview’s goriest attraction ever. Bloodview’s actors also stage spontaneous performances in the outdoor lot, with a new theme every weekend.

A former prison is a scary place on its own merits. The psychotic inmates and clowns that are let loose at the Ohio State Reformatory will make this prison even scarier than usual. It’s open from now until Nov. 3, every Thursday through Sunday, starting at 6 p.m.

19191 Bagley Rd., Middleburg Heights
Named one of the scariest haunted attractions in the country, 7 Floors of Hell is back for another horrifying year. Spread among seven different houses, it’s never the same two years in a row and it’s open every Thursday through Sunday through Nov. 3.

The Fortress of Fear is a 17th century-themed castle full of surprises. At the Screampark, you can also visit Fearanoia, a pandemic-infested factory and Feargotten, an escape room. It’s open every Friday and Saturday through October, with two special dates, opening on Oct. 28 and Halloween night.

What makes the Factory of Terror in Canton so notable? It’s set in an actual abandoned factory, for starters, and offers numerous attractions, including a mirror maze and a 3D-experience. Get your thrill on with The Scare Chair, which will take you on a bumpy, scary ride. This haunted house has been named largest indoor haunted house in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records. It’s open every Friday through Sunday through Nov. 3 and also the last two Thursdays of October.

This haunted adventure starts off with a half-mile hayride into the woods. That leads into a 45-minute trail filled with clowns, monsters, beasts and freaks that will surely unsettle you. It’s open every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 26.

Along with Ghostly Manor, an award-winning haunted house featured on Travel Channel, the Lake Eerie Fear Fest boasts frights for every taste. There’s also 3-D blacklight mini-golf, and an XD 4-D motion theater showing four different films. Open every Friday to Sunday through Oct. 27.

Hauntville offers an interactive fright experience, with 3-D glasses and new technology to create eye-popping visual effects, and professional actors ready to lock you in prison or worse. Cellblock13, the Butcher Barn, Psycho Manor and Wicked Clowns in 4D are the different attractions at this house of horrors. They’ll be open nearly every Thursday through Sunday through Nov. 2.

Open for more than 40 years, DarkenWood contains two mazes and an outdoor walking event, all centered around the Haunted State Street School House. They’ve recently re-designed the whole event, and their new attractions will scare you even more.

Presented by the Hudson Jaycees, the annual Hudson Haunted House is a must-visit on this list. Visit the Black Hole there for a frightening time. It will be open every Friday through Sunday in October and Halloween night.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has a kid-friendly halloween event that might not be as scary as some of the other places on this list, but it’s a great place for the whole family to go. Boo at the Zoo features a character dinner, movies, train rides and more. The dates are every weekend through October 11 to 27, from 5 p.m to 9 p.m.

This Halloween event, on Friday, Nov. 1 at the House of Blues, will feature a little bit of everything Halloween related. A blacklit haunted house, a costume contest, carnival and oddity shows and DJs spinning Halloween-themed music and more will take place at this event, a must-attend for any Halloween and music lover.

The Spooky Ranch is back with dozens of scary attractions, including the Extreme Nightmares Haunted House (which children under 11 are not allowed to enter), Monster Vision in 3-D, the Bloodslinger’s Saloon, the Haunted Barn and the famous Haunted Hayride. The Ranch goes through Nov. 2.

There is no haunted Halloween experience with more events and attractions than HalloWeekends at Cedar Point. With multiple mazes, scare zones, shows and experiences, there is surely something that will scare anyone willing to make the trip to Sandusky. The Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory has been in operation since 1974, perennially making “Top 10 Best Haunted Houses” lists. This year, you can get your chills on seven floors of terror. It’s open every Thursday to Sunday through Nov. 3.

1390 W. 65th St., Cleveland
Starting Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. and going until Oct. 20 at 6 a.m., the Capitol Theatre is putting on their annual all-night movie marathon. Some of the films that will be shown at this year’s 12 Hours of Terror include “A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984),” “Scream (1996),” “Bloody Birthday (1981)” and some secret films that will be unveiled the night of the event.

Do not miss this Halloween bash at the Odeon on Oct. 26. A haunted playground, electronic dance music, surreal performances, booming bass-lines, vivid performers, eclectic props, stilt walkers, hundreds of toys, loads of confetti and costumes make this one of the best Halloween parties in town.
