Photographer William Earle Williams memorializes fallen black troops in
A Song for Unsung Heroes: African American Soldiers in the Civil War, now on view at the University of Akrons Emily Davis Gallery. The 60-piece exhibit features contemporary pics of onetime training camps, as well as some solemn images of Louisianas Port Hudson, where 600 black soldiers were killed in 1863. Also check out photos from a now barren Alabama battlefield where 20,000 soldiers fought the wars last skirmish in the spring of 1865.
