This week’s top arts and entertainment picks around town, from the guy who’s paid to pick them: Monday: Local metal band Chimaira is holding a CD release party at Peabody’s tonight. Its new album, Resurrection, comes out tomorrow. But you can hear it for two hours straight (from 10 p.m. to midnight) tonight. Plus, the first 50 people in the door get a free T-shirt.
Tuesday: The Cleveland Cinematheque is really happy that it got a copy of David Lynch’s latest movie, Inland Empire. It’s so happy, in fact, that it’s showing the damn thing every single night this week. Share in its joy.
Wednesday: Tonight’s singer-songwriter showcase at the Beachland features a trio of artists who share affection for rootsy rhythms and sharp narratives: Joe Rohan, Doug Wood, and Megan Slankard. The first two are Clevelanders; Slankard comes from San Francisco. Be sure to stick around for her set.
Thursday: At the Sly Fox’s Ladies’ Jewelry Night, some guy named Fat Billy gets gals all liquored up and asks them to reach into his pants. We like to do the same thing. But unlike Fat Billy, we don’t have Keith Jewelers gift certificates or bracelets in our pocket. Plus, we don’t pay for their drinks like he does.
Friday: Pete Yorn still hasn’t convinced us he has what it takes to last another couple of years. Still, every time we play his latest CD, Nightcrawler, we find the monster hooks drawing us in. He plays House of Blues tonight, where the hooks oughta come loud and quick. –Michael Gallucci
