Concert Photos: Joe Satriani and Steve Vai at MGM Northfield Center Stage

Saturday night saw the first ever tour of axe slingers and all-around kings of cool Joe "Satch" Satriani and Steve Vai play Northeast Ohio at the MGM Northfield venue.

Satriani, well known for his signature guitar style, was Vai's guitar mentor at an early age. While only three years older than Vai, he said a fresh-faced 12-year-old Vai asked him to teach him the instrument, even though Satch had only been playing for a few years himself. A friendship formed and they've been lifelong buddies ever since.

Vai, also a highly-technical player, came out first for a rousing 50-minute set. A short intermission followed that allowed the sold-out crowd to gather their senses, and then Satch came out to wallop the audience with an hour set and a mind-blowing use of the whammy bar.

At the end of the show, a three-song jam session commenced for another good 30 minutes. The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" and Metallica's "Enter Sandman" closed out the night.
