Electronic Innovator

In his only performance in the region, electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick will revisit several of his older works tonight at the Museum of Contemporary Art as he performs From Silver Apples of the Moon to A Sky of Cloudless Sulfur IV: LUCY. The program starts with Subotnick’s 1967 album Silver Apples of the Moon, a collection of electronic noises that resemble the sound of a rainforest; it's one of only 300 recordings held by the Library of Congress’s National Register of Recorded Works, and concludes with 1978’s A Sky of Cloudless Sulfur. For the concert, Subotnick will use a new hybrid digital-Buchla “instrument.” “I always start with Silver Apples because that’s the most different from anything I did,” explains Subotnick. “That was really ancient times. It was the first time that anyone ever used a sequencer. I had two two-track tape recorders. The sound quality of the samples aren’t as sophisticated, but it’s interesting because the music still works.” The concert begins at 8 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Tickets: $15 for students,
$20 for MOCA members and seniors and $25 for non-members. (Niesel)

Boom’s Pizza, Shaker Heights

Last fall, Ben Bebenroth announced that he and his team had signed a lease for the former Michael’s Genuine space at Van Aken District. When it opens this summer, Boom’s Pizza in Shaker will join the original shop in Lakewood, which opened in early 2023. Once again, Bebenroth is working with Richardson Design to rework the space to better align it with their service approach, which blends the efficiency of a fast-casual operation with the comfort of a sit-down eatery. Guests order, pay and grab beverages from coolers filled with beer, wine by the can, split and bottle and soft drinks. For this location, they plan to dial back the self-serve beverage options in favor of a streamlined bar program featuring draft beers and draft cocktails.
