Bombs Away

Fifty years since its release, Stanley Kubrick’s satirical Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb still holds up as a brilliant bit of satire. Sterling Hayden stars as U.S. Army General Jack D. Ripper, a guy who loses his cool and provokes the Soviet Union by sending a bomber to attack the country. Peter Sellers plays three different characters in the film in the definitive Cold War comedy. In honor of the film’s 50th anniversary, the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque will screen a new 35mm print tonight at 9:45 and tomorrow night at 7:30. Tickets are $9. (Niesel)
