From the musical genius of George Gershwin, Porgy and Bess has earned a prominent place in American culture since its first performance in 1935. From its beautiful melodies to its rich harmonic texture, the folk opera is full of memorable songs like "Summertime," "It Ain't Necessarily So" and "I Loves You, Porgy." The powerful music is all in support of DeBose Heyward's gripping story of two lovers in Catfish Row in Charleston, S.C. Audiences and critics alike love this revival of the show; it won a Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 2012. Tonight's performance takes place at 7:30 at the Palace Theatre. It runs until Feb. 16. Tickets range from $10 to $75. (Stoops)
