Greenhouse Tavern had planned on remaining open until Feb. 16th, when the 11-year run on East Fourth would finally end. This would give fans a few weeks to stop in for a last meal, and for folks holding gift cards — which had been sold in BOGO fashion in recent months — a chance to use them.

But those plans changed, and Greenhouse closed its doors for good Saturday night. Staff report some vendors were wary of collecting payment for future deliveries given some of the media reports about financial issues at the restaurant.

A sign posted on the door said Greenhouse was sold out of various products and was unable to continue.

  1. Surprised he didn’t just have somebody torch the place. Would have been a far less sad ending to this story. This clown built up one of the prime spots that Cleveland could point to with pride, and then he became the captain of the Titanic when it ran into the iceberg. And he steered it there himself. Along with his bitch of a wife. Pathetic!

  2. It blows my mind that such negative, irrelevant news can remain on your front/home page for so long. You have three articles on the same issue. It almost seems as if Scene is celebrating a local’s failure.

    Are there any weekend events to cover? Or maybe a new restaurant that you went to visit? Perhaps a local film being produced, or a play to review? You’re either losing steam, or simply understaffed, uninspired. Checking Scene in the morning used to be a joy, now it has become just another site hurting for clicks.

  3. This local affected the livelihoods and the futures of a helluva lot of people in this town, not just himself and his harpy wife. Wake up nad smell the hangings, pal. These bastards deserve what they get and get what they deserve. For once, SCENE deserves a pat on the back, and not a kick in the ass. Good journalism isn’t dead yet.

  4. Former cook there. They never used duck fat in the fryers either. Veg oil from sysco. And the burgers were never Miller farms or whatever. Blue ribbon.

  5. If he torched the place, wouldn’t be the first time Sawyer committed insurance fraud related to a fire (those out there know what I’m talking about)

  6. Looking forward to the eventual bankruptcy these two clowns will have to declare. Anybody think they will stay in town?
