The first Cilantro Taqueria opened in Coventry Village in 2019. Since then, the local restaurant group has maintained a breathtaking pace of one new location per year.
Location number seven will be in Avon in the former Lifetime Fitness space (35516 Detroit Rd.) It’s slated to open in time for Cinco de Mayo (May 5) and will join other spots in Tremont, Lakewood, North Olmsted, Chesterland, Shaker and the OG in Cleveland Heights.
Since the start, Cilantro has established a reputation for offering a selection of high-quality Mexican street foods dished up in an efficient manner. The affordable and customizable menu has changed very little since 2019, with a roster of street tacos, bowls, burritos and fajitas. Those items are rounded out by starters and snacks like chips and guacamole, esquite, elote and queso fundido. A couple years ago, the restaurant added birria tacos served with consommé. For dessert, there are churros and tres leches cakes.
Cold beer and myriad margarita slushies are on hand to wash it all down.
