It’s nearly all systems go for Voodoo Brewery (2279 Lee Rd., 216-331-6775) in Cleveland Heights. After a couple of private events, the taproom is scheduled to open its doors to the public at 11 a.m. this Saturday, November 2. The Cedar-Lee location is one of a handful of satellite taprooms for the Meadville, Pennsylvania-based brewery of the same name.

The locally owned franchise is operated by partners Don Trivisonno and Cathy Zalocki, who have been working since last winter to convert a 3,000-square-foot double storefront, formerly home to Bill’s Dry Cleaning, into a rustic but comfortable neighborhood gathering spot. A wall separating the two spaces was removed and a beam was added to open up the entire space. A new kitchen and restrooms have been installed.

Despite the brewery designation, Voodoo will not brew any beer, but rather dispense a full lineup of beers brewed in Meadville. On hand will be 18 different selections. A “crowler” can seamer and refrigerated retail section will let beer fans take the beer to go. Voodoo has a full liquor license and will sell barrel-aged cocktails like Manhattans, Moscow mules and mojitos. Also on offer is wine, mead and cider.

A small but fully equipped kitchen will turn out pub snacks like pretzels and beer cheese, fried cheese, and poutine. Larger meals are built around salads, sandwiches, wraps, pizzas and burgers. A separate paper menu allows diners to build their own burger by ticking off the protein, temperature, cheese, toppings and sauces. Those proteins include black bean, beef, bison, boar, lamb and chicken. Orders for food are placed at the bar and picked up when a buzzer goes off.
