The space housing Cleveland's Spitfire Saloon at 1539 W. 117th Street will be going through some major changes in the next few months. Spitfire owner Stosh Burgess announced yesterday on the company's Facebook page that after nearly a decade of service, the punk rock dive bar will shutter permanently on January 16.

That's not to say there won't be activity behind the Spitfire doors — a brand new concept will open up shortly afterwards, Burgess says, though he's being pretty tight lipped on details.

"Please note: No one knows or will know the new look and format of the new bar until opening night," Burgess wrote on his Facebook page. "It is tucked away in Stosh’s brain and he will not tell anyone! The closing and the planning of the new bar has been in the works for the last 6 months. We hope to open the new bar by the end of February."

Burgess did say that the new hot spot will sport a new name and look and will not have live music. "Although it will not be Spitfire it will have the same fun and friendly atmosphere…We hope to have the same staff also," he says.

Since it opened in 2006, Spitfire has become a destination for locals to catch live punk acts, drink beer, and, on occasion, have sexual relations in the bar lavatories.
