Taste of Kerala to Open Sit-Down South Indian Restaurant in Woodmere

Great news, Indian food fans: Taste of Kerala, a beloved six-year-old South Indian restaurant in Mayfield Heights (5850 Mayfield Rd., 440-461-9212), is opening a new location in Woodmere. The business will open a second shop in the former home of Tomaydo Tomahhdo (3429 W. Brainard Rd.). The full-service sit-down eatery is an upgrade from the barebones, take-out-only storefront on Mayfield. Look for the new restaurant to open any day now.

Like other South Indian eateries, this one devotes a large portion of the menu to vegetarian dishes like airy iddli served with sambar and chutney, dosa rolled around potatoes and onions, veggie-filled samosas, and crispy lentil fritters. Meat-free entrees include chickpea curry, eggplant masala, mutter panner and vegetarian biryani.

Non-vegetarian items range from lamb curry to fiery, fluffy goat biryani. Staples like butter chicken, tikka masala, lamb korma and chicken 65 join special dishes like fried kingfish with tamarind soup.

The original location is currently closed. It will undergo renovations and reopen in late November.
