Those Lips, Those Eyes</p.

The Cinematheque celebrates its 25th anniversary this weekend with a whole bunch of special movies. You can find the complete list below. (They’re also showing a surprise movie at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, August 5.) The one that should be at the top of your to-do list is this 1980 comedy about theater actors, starring Frank Langella and Tom Hulce (in between Animal House and Amadeus). It was written by a former Clevelander and shot at Cain Park. So there’s some local history here. Another reason to catch it on the big screen? It’s never been released on DVD. A new print of one of the greatest silent movies ever made: Sergei Eisenstein’s 1925 retelling of a Russian massacre. Cleveland Museum of Art’s Morley Lecture Hall. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 3.

Documentary about the influential hip-hop group. Opens Friday at the Cedar Lee.

The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff

Cardiff was the first cinematographer to win an honorary Oscar. His excellent work on The Red Shoes and The African Queen had something to do with it. Cinematheque. At 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 5, and 9:10 p.m. Saturday, August 6.

Children of Hiroshima

This 1952 Japanese movie wasn’t released in the U.S. until last year. Wonder why? Cinematheque. At 7:15 p.m. Friday, August 5, and 5 p.m. Saturday, August 6.

The Goonies

The Melt Bar & Grilled Late Shift series continues with this 1985 adventure. Cedar Lee Theatre. At 9:30 p.m. and midnight Saturday, August 6.

King Kong

The Cinematheque kicks off PlayHouse Square’s 14th Cinema at the Square fest with one of the greatest movies of all time. See it on the big screen. Palace Theatre. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 4.

A Useful Life
