The film industry is booming in Cleveland.

This summer’s shooting of “Captain America: Winter Soldier” was exciting to say the least. Parts of the city were shut down to film wild explosions and stunts, and A-list celebrities were spotted all over town.

The trend continues, with filming of “Jenny’s Wedding,” starring Katherine Heigl, currently underway. And, according to WKYC, Cleveland is in for a treat in the spring of 2014.

The next installment in the classic “Ghostbusters” franchise is scheduled to may begin filming right here in Cleveland this spring.

[Earlier this morning, WKYC reported that Cleveland had been named filming headquarters for the latest Ghostbusters installment, yet the Cleveland Film Commission and Sony have since declined to comment.

In May, however, actor Dan Aykroyd did tell ShortList.com that he and director Ivan Reitman would be meeting in Cleveland in June to discuss the movie, NewsNet5 reports.

“I’m going to be meeting Ivan on June 7 in Cleveland, which is exciting as it’s been on and off for a few years but we’re really looking at a solid script now,” Aykroyd said.

It’s still unclear whether this meeting means the film will definitely be using Cleveland as its backdrop.]

The Huffington Post reports that high caliber celebrities are being sought after for roles in “Ghostbusters 3.” Hollywood darling Emma Stone and comedy king Jonah Hill are rumored to be top choices for roles.

Cleveland is becoming a top destination for the entertainment industry, which is good for star-spotting and great for the economy. It will also be awesome to see who makes it into the movie with a cameo in “Ghostbusters 3….”

  1. not to be a skeptic, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against them filming in the CLE, but if I based my career off of films that were rumored to be coming to Cleveland, I’d be unemployed most of the time. The amount of times a films scouts locations then changes their mind at the last minute is high. Again, not to be negative, just that i’m not holding my breath.

  2. Bill Murray has already stated that he has no interest in starring in a new Ghostbusters movie. I highly doubt any of those old crusty actors will be in the movie.

  3. Was this written by a reporter with any source or the kid who gets the coffee? Nice poster by the way, looks about as professional as the article.

  4. I love the idea that movies are being made in cleveland. I don’t mind the inconvenience in traffic. Even if it doesn’t boost economy. I am CLEVELAND PROUD. Everyone in cleveland should be right down to the history. I say. the more movies filmed here the better,so let’s go GHOSTBUSTERS 3

  5. Couldn’t care less about “star-spotting”. But I’d like to ask the Scene writer to prove her outlandish claim that it is “great for the economy” for Cleveland and Ohio to subsidize Hollywood production. That’s certainly not been the experience of numerous other cities that went down this road. Oh, and btw, most of the movies Hollywood’s been filming here do not take place in Cleveland.

  6. Bottom line is, Hollywood films in Cleveland because Cleveland is their latest sucker city and our politicians like the publicity it gives them while everything they do has been failing the people of this city and region for decades.
