Adam Ant brought his Friend or Foe Tour to the Masonic Auditorium on Saturday night and began the show by playing the albums title track. The stage was thick with smoke as Ant appeared from the mist dressed in a straw hat, a pirate-type coat, black jeans, and black boots, a bandana hanging from his back pocket. Without a horn section, percussion was the key to establishing the unique sound that defines the Friend or Foe album, which Ant played in its entirety. While the dozen tracks that make up the record certainly missed live brass, two full-time drummers did their best to make up for it, providing a rhythm and swing that brought the crowd to its feet from two-hour performances opening notes. Ant closed the show with “Physical,” a song that featured great guitar riffs. (Jeffrey Jones)
