A Lakewood storefront is home to a new studio and Internet radio
station. After an amicable split with Lava Room Recording,
Billy Morris has set up Revolution Recording in the
basement of 11798 Detroit Ave. He and a small crew are running digital
equipment in a space that’s set up for recording and jamming.
“It’s pretty DIY,” says Morris, the former Warrant guitarist who now
plays with cover band Breakfast Club. “It’s an everything studio
— recording, rehearsing, mixing.”
Upstairs, Internet radio station Uncensored Net Noise has
settled in the front window space. Morris and the Net Noise staff plan
to add a stage and seats for studio guests — from passersby to
live audiences and bands.
Net Noise streams 24/7 at morningshowcentral.com, running
original programs of talk, music, videogames and sports. The Tuesday
evening Projekt X Show features all local music, with a popular
spotlight segment called “Does Your Music Suck?” MSC general manager
Chris Vaughn says he’d like to see the spot become a clubhouse
for local and national entertainers, from comedians to players.
“We’re trying to drum up the Cleveland scene as a whole,” says
Vaughn. “Get their music heard and bring it here, show it to the
masses.”
Ripper Watch: Tim “Ripper” Owens’ solo band is touring
Europe, with local guitarist John Comprix (Beyond Fear, Ringworm)
backing metal all-stars including Chris Caffery (Trans-Siberian
Orchestra) and Dave Ellefson (ex-Megadeth). Before he left, Owens, an
Akron-area resident, spoke up for embattled mayor Don Plusquellic.
“It’s a shame people are talking about his spending,” says Owens. “But
he’s bringing business back to Akron. I remember the place before him.
You can’t deny that he’s done a great job.”
A new McDonald’s McCafé ad campaign features music and
video by Cleveland soul singer Conya Doss and Detroit’s
Dwele. Check it out online at 365black.com/365black/mccafe.jsp.
Former Whitechapel (Cleveland) bassist Eric Pollarine has a
new project, the Bridge Party. It’s electronic and dancey, but
more dark and contemporary. Four tracks are posted at myspace.com/bridgepartymusic.
This article appears in Jun 3-9, 2009.

Hoo-rah for Eric P’s new venture in music! I’d join him, but my time in Whitechapel killed my liver and I cannot leave my Rascal powerchair, rendering touring impossible!
