Originally from Akron but now based out of Nashville, the Black Keys are the little band that could. The group, which played its first show years ago in the tiny Beachland Tavern, is now one of the biggest rock acts in the world. The group performs on Saturday Night Live this weekend and its new album, Turn Blue, comes out on Tuesday. The band has said the album title may or may not be a reference to Cleveland late night TV host Ghoulardi. A U.S. tour launches in September and the group performs at Quicken Loans Arena on September 6. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16.

Jeff has been covering the Cleveland music scene for more than 25 years now. On a regular basis, he tries to talk to whatever big acts are coming through town. And if you're in a local band that he needs to hear, email him at jniesel@clevescene.com.
