Cleveland-based singer Chayla Hope recorded demos for her new album, Mess of a Woman, at home before heading into the studio with collaborator and co-producer Nate Saggio (Jack Harris, Sir Yacht).

Hope and and Saggio even share the mic for a duet on the album, which was mixed and mastered in Dolby Atmos at Amazon Music’s Studio126.

“The title Mess of a Woman comes from a hate comment I got online: ‘What a voice, what a tattooed mess of a woman,’” says Hope in a press release. “Instead of shrinking from it, I decided to own it. This album is me embracing every piece of who I am — producer, songwriter, artist, human — and turning it into something powerful.”

To celebrate the release, Saucy Brew Works has teamed up with Hope for a limited-edition beer collaboration as part of their Artist Collective series. Hope was the inaugural artist for the series. The special IPA features Columbus, Citra, Simcoe, Idaho 7, and Amarillo CRYO.

Locally based Wax Mage Records will release custom vinyl variants, some signed and hand-pressed by Hope herself, a former press operator at locally based Gotta Groove Records. Pre-orders for the vinyl are already live on waxmage.com.

Hope has also teamed up with artist Emily Mistica to create a graphic novel of the same name. Inspired by the album’s lyrics, the book serves as “both a companion piece and a visual extension of Hope’s artistic vision.”

An album listening and beer release party takes place at 7 tonight Saucy Brew Works’ Ohio City Event Space (2885 Detroit Ave.).
