Earlier this year, locally based Slow Groove Kings, a self-described Southern Gothic Soul band, released a new EP, The Nashville Vampire Supper Club. Now, the group has just released a new Halloween-themed single, “Counting Sheep.”
“Crafted in the intimate setting of [frontman and songwriter] Brett Potts’s home studio, this hauntingly gorgeous version stars vocalist and songwriter Autumn Skye alongside Potts and guitarist Tim Parnin, offering a stripped-down yet radiant take on the song that fans may already recognize from Slow Groove Kings’ live performance,” reads the press release about the track.
With lyrics such as “burning all my dreams/I turned a bit sour/In the golden hour,” the song comes off as an “atmospheric anthem for the restless and the romantic alike.”
The full band version is expected to follow in the coming months, but this initial release allows listeners to experience the “emotional blueprint” behind the song, told through Skye’s soaring vocals and the minimal production.
