LeAnn Rimes burst onto scene in the late 1990s, winning a Grammy at 14 years old for her debut single “Blue.” Drawing comparisons to Patsy Cline, she followed up that monumental success, selling almost 50 million albums while most other teenagers were still trying to figure out their chemistry homework. A year after “Blue,” she cut “How Do I Live,” cementing her place as the first of many-to-come Country/Pop-crossover artists of the late ’90s. To this day, she remains the youngest winner of a Grammy award.
Also known for her acting ability, she graced the silver screens in the camp classic Coyote Ugly. Then she got her driver’s license, got married, and settled into a fairly comfortable life.
Last weekend she came to Northeast Ohio, playing to a massive crowd as part of the Mentor Rocks! series of summer concerts sponsored by the city that bring in national recording artists to anchor their efforts.
Rimes offered up a fairly-short set list, giving up “Blue” early in the set. She wrapped things up with a throaty rendition of “How Do I Live” close to the end of the night, just as the sun started to set over a perfect late July Sunday.
