Early aughts powerhouse The Fray played the Agora on Saturday night to a sold-out crowd. Coming to prominence with their four-times platinum certed-debut album How to Save a Life, the Denver-founded quartet became a terrestrial radio mainstay following that record’s release.
Longtime frontman and founding member Isaac Slade left the band in 2022 for personal reasons, leaving Joe King the main vocal duties. Ripping through a twenty-tune set, the outfit was touring in celebration of the 20th anniversary of How to Save a Life, and played the album in its entirety.
Offering up a three-song encore, they closed out the evening with a Hank Williams cover of “I Saw the Light,” accompanied by openers The Strike.
Pop rockers The Strike and Nashville-based trio verygently started off the evening with two very different sets; verygently’s indie rock sensibilities and three-part harmony got the crowd into the vibe on a very steamy Saturday evening while the funky-pop sound of The Strike set the stage for The Fray’s entrance an hour or so later.
