A Band Called Death

(Drafthouse)

This documentary about the black Detroit punk band didn’t generate much revenue at the box office during its short theatrical release (that included a one-night stand in Cleveland) but it provides an in-depth look at a seminal act. The inclusion of so much of the band’s music is a plus as it serves to reintroduce us to the visceral, Stooges-like tunes.

Glen Campbell

See You There

(Surfdog Records)

The country icon revisits his biggest hits and provides beautifully re-recorded versions. Given his failing health, this might be his last album and if that’s the case it’s quite the farewell.

Jeff has been covering the Cleveland music scene for more than 25 years now. On a regular basis, he tries to talk to whatever big acts are coming through town. And if you're in a local band that he needs to hear, email him at jniesel@clevescene.com.
