- Robertson
Until his death from cancer in December 2007 at the age of 56, singer-songwriter Eric Robertson was a longtime fixture in the Mentor music scene, best known for his long-running band the Secret.
The Secret’s first lineup, from 1980-1985, included former Raspberries Wally Bryson on guitar and Dave Smalley on bass, and attempted, in their poppy, British-invasion-dominated repertoire, to recreate some of the magic of the Mentor rock scene of the ’60s that Bryson and Smalley were part of.
Later lineups featured many of Robertson’s own tunes. Early last year, some of Robertson’s friends got together for a tribute and benefit show at the Beachland.
This weekend, they’re doing it again, gathering a batch of musicians who knew or admired Robertson for a two-night tribute at the Beachland.
On Saturday, the lineup includes the Secret Friends, John Salamon, the Alan Greene Band, Morticia’s Chair, Jimmy Black & Friends, Donny Young and a veteran of the ’60s rock scene, Denny Carlton.
Sunday’s show features Artie Peeler Production, Fire Zuave, the Brickhouse Blues Band, Raygus, Euphoria and Dickens’ Store.
Both shows start at 7:30; admission is $12 per night or $20 for both nights. —Anastasia Pantsios

Why does this not mention Mike Angelo the guitarist/singer (my dad)? We lived next door to Eric for 10 yrs. I grew up falling asleep everynight in Erics home studio. Ijs….. -M.Angelo
GOOD QUESTION ~ AMEN!!!!!!!!!! Mike Angelo was (and I’d assume still is) and amazing guitarist . . . he was a true musician/artist. I still can see him holding his WHITE- Gibson Double-Neck guitar, that unfortunately I heard he had sold Long ago. Im am glad that someone related to Mike has surfaced to aknowledge. Rumor had it that “Mikey” actually could play classical piano and use to display his keyboard CHOPS for friends, obviously never during SECRET performances, but I heard about it over the years. Im the person who had POSTED Vidz of your dad on Youtube from the SAHARA Club 1991. You father Teamed with Eric, Dave Smalley (pre-john penca) in late 1985 (a very long time ago) . . . to form the 2nd version of THE SECRET. I will say that I continue to hear Mike Angelo’s name brought-up to this day ~ STILL~ over 20years later. I hope he is Doing WeLL and still playing. I wish him all the luck in the world ~ John Tomczak
I worked with him at the Record Theatre shop in Mentor in the mid 1970’s. He was an OK guy. At least he laughed at all the right things! Rest In Peace, Eric Robertson…
