When the House Jacks, an international vocal group, performs at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Shaker Heights High School, it will be almost like old times for Shaker Heights High School alum Austin Willacy. Willacy & Co. have performed at Carnegie Hall and have been featured in Rolling Stone magazine and on CNN. They’ve opened for acts such as Ray Charles, James Brown, the Neville Brothers, Crosby Stills & Nash, the Four Tops and LL Cool J. “The fine and performing arts are vital components of the Shaker experience,” says Shaker Heights superintendent of schools Gregory C. Hutchings Jr., in a press release. “The House Jacks concert is a fun way for all of Greater Cleveland to experience different ways of expression, creativity and innovative thinking.” The concert is open to the public, and tickets are $25. In addition, the House Jacks will host a series of private workshops as part of a two-day artist residency at the school. Proceeds from the concert will support vocal music education at Shaker.
