Perhaps the success of the first Porchfest this past summer in Cleveland’s Larchmere neighborhood has inspired others to replicate the engaging, low-key, casual music event.
The village of Peninsula is staging its first Music on the Porches event from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. tomorrow. Music will take place not only on house porches and patios, but also inside tents and in and around local business all day at 14 different venues so far — and more are being added.
Naturally, most of the music will tend toward the folksy and rootsy, with acts like the Galgozy/Zeleny Duo playing original and traditional folk/blues songs from 2-4 p.m. at Elements Gallery (1619 W. Mill St., 330.657.2788, elementsgallerypeninsula.com), Tina Bergmann playing Celtic and old-time music on hammered dulcimer at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Peninsula railroad depot (cvsr.com) from noon-2 p.m. and Lawson-Hilary & Eric Everson doing traditional Irish music at Heritage Farms (6050 Riverview Rd., 330.657.2330, heritagefarms.com) at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
But the roster includes everything from Peninsula resident Greg Canda playing his own compositions on the porch of the Downtown Emporium (1595 Main St., 330.657.2778) from 1-3 p.m. to Hazel Broughton giving a workout to the 1889 Estes Pump Organ at the Bronson Memorial Church (1712 Main St., 330.657.2211, bronsonchurch.com) to the Cool Breeze Trio offering jazz from noon-4 p.m. at Ohio Hardwood Furniture (1663 Main St., 330.657.2094).
There’ll be dancing, storytelling, pumpkin carving and other attractions too.
