An Akron-based folk/rock/blues band, the Ohio Weather Band will play a CD Release Party at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Musica in Akron to celebrate the release of its second album, Crooked Light. The Alan Cox Show’s Erika Lauren will be the guest MC and Seafair and John Patrick & the Outside Voices open. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Sounding a bit like something from indie pop greats Weezer, the album’s catchy first single, “Boardwalk Act,” features upper-register vocals and a touch of piano before grunge-y guitars kick in. The songs on the disc suggest the band’s eclectic sound. “Ohio Weather” comes off as a brittle folk ballad, and “Zeros” packs a garage blues punch thanks to distorted guitars and a funky backbeat.

In the wake of the CD Release Show, the band will play the South by Southwest music festival in Austin as part of a two-week tour. Upon their return from that jaunt, they’ll play the Palace Theater in Canton on March 24.
