Local rapper Vice Souletric likes to talk about how he grew up in the Golden Era of hip-hop when rappers such as Jay-Z, the Notorious B.I.G. and DMX were popular. He emulates those icons on his 2015 solo debut, Vice for President, and its 2016 follow-up, Vice for President 2, an album that includes a cameo from rapper Talib Kweli from the acclaimed hip-hop duo Black Star.

Later this year, Souletric will release Vice for President 3: Overthrow, and he’s just dropped the first single, “Generation Gap.” A tune with rattling drum beats and stuttering synths, the catchy song finds Souletric rapping about the current social and political climate. He also recounts a conversation he had with his son about who the best rapper of all time might be.
