Now, to mark the fifth anniversary of Rice’s death, Mahall’s 20 Lanes in Lakewood has just announced that it’ll host Black at Play, a benefit for the Tamir Rice Foundation at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Feed the People and Chick the Flyest will perform, and Ephraim Nehemiah and Breshea Anglen will read their poetry. ALOOF Recs artists 2SSAINT and Case Bargé, two terrific local rappers, will host the event.
“We hope to preserve the legacy of Tamir Rice and to activate something within everyone to continue to push for social justice and unity. It is also very important to us to support all of Ms. Rice’s endeavors with the foundation and the Tamir Rice Afrocentric Cultural Center,” says ALOOF Recs co-owner and event producer Alexis Manalo.
Admission to the event is a $10 donation.
