The last time
the B-52’s released a record, George Bush was president. The album was called
Good Stuff. And they sang a song about a “Hot Pants Explosion.” That was 16 years ago. Their new CD,
Funplex, has a song titled “Keep This Party Going.” And there’s still a Bush in the White House. Little has changed, and that’s kinda
Funplex’s point.
Original member Cindy Wilson is back in the group, so the new album sounds pretty much like what you’d expect: The girls sing space-age harmonies. The burbling synths are straight out of a ’60s B-movie. And Fred Schneider chimes in with his usual nasally proclamations (“Faster pussycat, thrill, thrill!”) from time to time …
