The Scene Music Department stayed up late to watch the game, and now they’re out of the office, burning copies of The Departed. Instead of raving up All Smiles — the mellow indie-rock solo project from ex-Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild — they’ll just the singer do it. But you should know that he deserves better. Band: All Smiles Hometown: “Modesto,CA, via Portland, OR, by way of Los Angeles, CA detoured by Chicago, IL.” Sounds like: “Indian Summer leaves falling on late October days. Set to music.” Recommend for fans of: “Some say it’s a little Elliott Smith, and some John Lennon.” Fun fact: “Since I am the only member of the band, and likewise with David Bazan’s solo outift, I can say that everybody in our two bands once worked at Skip’s Music in Modesto, California.” Playing: Wednesday, October 24 at the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Hts. Blvd., 215-321-5588), with Pedro the Lion’s David Bazan. Why you need to see him: “I may not have such a nice haircut next year.” — Jim Fairchild, guitar and singing.
