When the pandemic shut down touring, Mushroomhead’s Ryan “Dr. F.” Farrell went back to college to finish his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Composition at Cleveland State University. He had stopped taking classes and participating in the program back in 2007 because of Mushroomhead’s hefty touring schedule, but he finished his coursework and received his degree a couple of years ago.

Now, Farrell, who also teaches piano, has created a music and art book called Sinister Miniatures: 13 Short Preludes for Piano.

“During my winter break I decided to be productive and write some short pieces of solo piano music for my students,” says Farrell in an email exchange. “I thought it would be cool to make a creepy work of art to go along with each piano piece to create a more immersive, narrative experience. Think of it as like Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for musicians.”

The books are available on his website along with other “fun and creative stuff.”
