A trio of pop-punk outfits took over the Agora Theater on Monday night to a damn-near sold-out show. Headliner Say Anything, fronted by vocalist Max Bemis, provided a solid ninety-minutes of early aughts throwbacks. Plagued by a continually-rotating roster of band members, the sextet has found its groove and sounded tight.
Motion City Soundtrack, founded in Minneapolis in 1997, received perhaps the best ovation from the crowd. Lead vocalist and primary songwriter Justin Pierre kept the energy going throughout their set, egging on those brave enough to surf over and through the crowd to the pit area.
Openers Sincere Engineer, Chicago-based and the youngest of the three outfits, played a half-hour of power-punk tunes. Starting in 2017, they’ve hit their stride over the last few years and are a unit to keep your eyes on.
