Update: Because Pussy Riot’s March 28 show at the Grog Shop sold out so quickly, the Grog Shop has announced an additional show that will take place on March 29 at the bigger Beachland Ballroom.

Those tickets go on sale at noon on Friday.

Original Post 12/6/2019: The Russian protest art collective Pussy Riot just released the song “Hangerz,” a rowdy punk-ish number that features cameos from Vic Mensa and Junglepussy. In support of the single, the controversial group also announced a 19-date headline tour across North America that benefits Planned Parenthood.

The song was written even before the group played a sold-out live benefit show in Birmingham on July 11 to protest anti-abortion legislation. All proceeds from the show were donated to non-profits Yellowhammer Fund and Planned Parenthood.

The band received international attention when they were imprisoned for 2 years in Russian jail for performing 35-seconds of a “punk prayer” inside the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. In 2014, the group launched Mediazona, a “100 percent censorship-free independent Russian media agency focusing on controversial law enforcement issues including exposing the conditions in prisons, routine tortures in police departments and the FSB, persecutions of political activists, elections, protests and more.”

The group performs on March 28 at the Grog Shop. Tickets are on sale now.
