Here’s a whoopin’ that’s pure joy: The Olympic Ass Kickin’ Team is the kind of old-school, good-time rock and roll combo with a hip-shaking keyboard player — kind of like NRBQ, but fun. Hard-punching drummer Terry Anderson wrote some songs for the Georgia Satellites, and he also plays with the Yayhoos — those colorful cats who are often called “the Harlem Globetrotters of roots rock,” if that gives you an idea where he’s coming from. Also on the bill for a little pre-jam chill is rockabilly singer-songwriter Sarah Borges & the Broken Singles (pictured; she’s not headlining, but she’s way prettier than the Ass Kickers). The Singles alone are totally worth the ticket price, if you like wispy vocals and weepy steel guitar — sorta sad music that you can still totally shake it to.
